My now 17 year old daughter was prescribed Yaz back on 7/12/07. Since then she has had an extreme problem with constipation. She has been to the doctors several times, and is now seeing a gastrointestinal specialist because she can only have a bowel movement if she takes a laxative. The pediatric doctor had her on miralax from April to October trying to get this problem under control. It has not worked. We are seeing the specialist and they are running her through a battery of tests, which will now possible include a colonoscopy (at 17 !!!!). She has been extremely moody and aggravated - which I attributed to her age of course. She is no longer extremely athletic, she doesn't really do a lot. She is not the same person, definitely is a homebody now - never going out hardly with friends, etc. She has also had a 20 pound weight gain and for a tiny girl, this has had a huge effect on her. I have watched all of this, and never really thought about the yaz connection until today when a friend sent me this email with a link to this site: ****** that is when I got scared thinking maybe her problems were all caused by yaz. of course her acne cleared up, but her periods are still irregular and spotty. has anyone else experienced the bowel problems???

Hi,
I have suffered with bowel problems although not constipation. I have had severe diarrhea for the last 6/7 years and it has been life changing. I have tried absolutely everything and as a last resort I stopped taking this pill because I came across an article linking diarrhea and yasmin. Things have improved drastically every month since then. I have been to doctors, bowel specialists, changed diets, etc.. you name it they couldn't help me. This is the only thing that has and I will never take another contraceptive pill again. I have since been reading up on this and it seems that there is a strong link between hormones and diarrhea / constipation. I am absolutely positive that yasmin has been the reason for my daily battle with diarrhea everyday for the last 7 years. I hope that my experience will help.

I guarantee it is due to the diuretic effect of the Yaz. I was sooo dehydrated on that pill that I had to stop taking it. Everything I drank went right through me.

I have been on yasmin for 4 years and have suffered with constipation, poor libido, headaches, exhaustion, depression... I just got onto this website today wondering about side effects as I have lost all hope. The past four years I blamed my symptoms on a major snowboarding accident that happened around the time I began taking Yasmin, which 4 years later I am beginning to question? I am 26 and I feel like my husband got screwed as I was normal before we got married and since the yasmin, everything has changed. I have to take glycerin laxatives once or twice a day; if I don't take them I have a fever between 99-100 degrees daily. I tried miralax (the whole bottle), natual laxatives, fiber, zelnorm and nothing happens. The zelnorm seems to help the bloating and gas more than anything but doesn't help the constipation. I went to the gastro and got a CAT scan. The doc said I am chronically constipated and if I don't continue taking laxatives I could end up in the hospital getting surgery!!! I am a joyful person and enjoy life but just 4 months ago I couldn't deal anymore and went to the doctor because I would sleep 8 hours at night, go to work, come home and sleep 3 hours, have dinner with my husband, and go to bed again. He put me on protac but I wonder if this is all related to Yasmin!? Any insight?

Your daughter may have hypothyroidism (not sure about the spelling) but her symptoms are the same as your description. Constipation, tired, weight gain. If you have hyperthyroidism you have the opposite symptoms ie: diarrhea, hyperactivity, running around like a chicken, talking fast, lots of energy, weight loss and you are hot all the time. So have her thyroid checked anyway. Good Luck, dolores

I've only been on Yasmin for about 4 months now. And about 4 weeks ago after supper I just had to go, and go, and go. We thought it was food poisoning. But then the same thing happened the next week one night. And then last week and this week, it doesnt seem to matter what I eat, I goes in and within an hour I'm in the bathroom. I've taken to carrying Immodium AD with me everywhere I go and it stops the diarrhea, but then I'm constipated, and it doesnt matter what I take I can't get the bloating and gas to go away. I started thinking the other day that maybe it's from the pill. So I got online and started looking it up. I've decided that my normal 7 day long heavier than hell period will be just fine for me because I'm never taking birth control again! This is the 4th different birthcontrol I've been on and I've had major side effects to all of them. I think the smart thing to do, is to take your daughter off Yasmin. Its not worth the risk. I'm glad I'm going off now, maybe I'll be lucky and won't have to worry about the gall bladder and other horrible things that other people have come across.
