what was the length of the skin rash? I've developed it on my trunk and it is spreading. I too am taking Bactrim
I have had a very similar thing happen to me. I was diagnosed with prostatitis the day after Christmas to which they gave me Cipro which made me feel like I was being poisoned. I started having pain and numbness in my left arm which the doctor said was not related to antibiotic (I have since been told by a chiro and a neurologist it is an Ulnar Neuropathy from sleeping on it oddly and my newly started Yoga practice -- I still find the timing suspicious and it is not getting much better.) They switched me to Bactrim at this point. Eesh.
By the 7th day I developed terrible acid reflux and a feeling of complete panic while sleeping. It was like my entire body was churning and all my muscles started to burn. I broke out into hives on my arms, feet and thighs the next day and I stopped taking it (between the Cipro and the Bactrim it had been 10 days on antibiotics). In the past week the rash subsided but I have a slight head cold along with aches and stiffness in my legs - the left side in particular to match the problems in the left arm. I am waiting for it to get better but it has been a week and the pains just seem to get worse. I am trying to plow through but it has also heightened my anxiety level so I am spending too much time expecting it to be something worse.
Anyone know how long these symptoms could last? Tomorrow will be 1 week since I stopped taking it and would assume that it must be out of my system by now. Thanks.
As a nurse I would say that the dreams were certainly a side effect of the medicine, but the other symptoms you had were that of an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions to antibiotics can be very serious. Had you not stopped taking it your throat could have swollen shut and you could stop breathing.
If when taking a medicine you ever experience itching, swelling, and especially difficulty breathing, you should immediately discontinue that medicine and consult your doctor.
In the future you need to tell your care providers of your reaction to Bactrim as it could be indicative of how you might react to other medicines, You may want to consider carrying an epi pen ( shot of adrenaline) just in case you have a more severe reaction to something like this in the future.
