I took Prednisone for about 6 weeks for Stevens-Johnson Syndrome brought on by an allergic reaction to Ciprofloxacin. My main complaint on taking it was extreme hunger--not for sweets or junk, but for real food. I was also very moody and I think I must have been really mean to my husband. At the time, I thought I was being reasonable, but looking back, I can see I wasn't. It kept me awake, as well. Without the Prednisone, I might have died, because the extreme, constant itching with the Stevens-Johnson would have driven me completely nuts. My main complaint is that almost two months after quitting taking the Prednisone, I continue to have a moon face, facial swelling, and holding water elsewhere to the extent that I can hardly tie my shoes or even breathe. I would have expected that to get better by now instead of worse.

I have been one prednisone for almost 4 yrs. I can not get off of it, But retaining water I have. I am taking 7 water pills because I had a hard time breathing with such a swollen belly. I could not bend down and tie my shoes cause I would be out of breath. I know the moon face and other side effects takes awhile to get rid of. I heard if you are on the meds for 2 months then it take 6 months to get the steroid out of you system. Hope this helps. Do not give up cause it will go away before you know it. SanDee

I was on prednisone for 3 plus months following a severe allergic reaction. At one point I was taking 80mg/day. I experienced rapid hunger, swelling to my face (moon face), neck had a layer of fat, swollen back (buffalo hump). It took about 4-6 months of being off the prednisone before I was symptom free. The moon face started fading slowly followed by the buffalo hump. As I was weaning off the prednisone and for approx. 3-4 months after that, I also experienced hair loss. I am a female with long hair and everytime I would brush or take my fingers through my hair, 20-30 strands would come out. This too went away with time. Best advice, stay positive and let time work its magic. Its difficult at times and extremely frustrating but IT WILL GET BETTER.

Take Care,

NZ
