Well, ive been off the doxy for about 5 days now, and im still experiencing the side effects, noticeably, the depression...and weakness....and still don't have a strong appetite. From what im reading, it will take several weeks for these symptoms to go away....I told my doctor about the side effects, and he did not at all seem concerned or surprised, except to say that he would not put me on doxy anymore....i will never take this drug again....thank heavens for this site, because I at least I know what all this is caused by. Just a quick recap of all the side effects I have suffered....Ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, major gas, weight loss, depression, headaches, lethargy, loose stool, chest pains, back pains, and burning eyes.

HI Dave, Sorry to hear that you had such a bad reaction to this medication. I had quite similar side effects. It took about 2-3 weeks for the depression and anxiety to subside. It took an additional 2-3 weeks for the joint & muscle pain to subside. Hang in there.... it will slowly get better.

My dog was prescribed DOXYCYCLINE for a tick-born pathogen - after 4 days, he began exhibiting anxiety, and believe it or not, hallucinations - he would jump up and bark at things that weren't there. He is a doberman, and usually stays outside, however, we brought him inside during his illness - I don't know whether the vet thinks we are just neurotic dog owners (obviously, dogs can't tell you they feel paranoid or that they are hallucinating), but I'm sure he was. He needs to take the medication, but we are considering an alternative injectable, imizol.
