I was on Levaqin for a week (500 mg) for bronchitis. It seemed to work and I didn't notice any side effects and I am usually sensitive to antibiiotics (dizziness, etc..). However, the day after I finished my last dose I developed an itchy rash on my outer thighs, my back, my underarms and a few other random places. I also now have a yeast infection which I guess is a common side effect. The rash is what concerns me. At first I thought it wouldn't be related because it came on after I finished the antiobitcs but after reading some of these posts I see that you can get rash after taking the medication. Has anyone else had a rash AFTER taking Levaquin?

I took 500 mg of Levaquin for 3 days and 250 mg for 2 days for a UTI. On day six I developed the worst rash I've ever seen. It's like I slept in a poison ivy patch. I itch constantly and can't sleep. I didn't even finish the 7 day prescription. It's now day 4 from not taking it and I still have a rash, especially behind my knees and elbows and random places. I have to use calamine lotion, peroxide, and lotion all day long. I'm also taking Benedryl which barely seems to do anything. Also I feel puffy in my legs and arms at the joints. I never have had a drug reaction before. This is the worst stuff on the market.

To Susan57,
Your reaction to Levaquin sounds a lot like mine! After a month and a half of rash mine has finally ALMOST gone away. One thing that has really helped is using Benadryl cream liberally all over the areas that itch. I also use Aveeno soap which is very soothing. Taking Benadryl orally helped some but then the rash and itching would come back after it wore off. It seems Benadryl cream works the best. My dermatologist put me on a Prednisone pack for a week and that helped some but some of it came back. Good luck to you and hope this helps!

Thank you. I'm going to pick up that Benadryl cream tomorrow. I'm sure I will have another sleepless, itchy night. I've gone through the bottle of Benedryl already. I have some antibiotic ointment on hand that seems to be healing up the WELTS somewhat. The rash seems to have gone done my body and is on the front of both my thighs and random spots on my legs. It's reminding me of bug bites on my legs, now.

That is amazing how much your rash sounds like mine. Mine also was on the backs of my knees, my elbows, my thighs and it resembled bug bites. Let me know if the Benadryl cream works for you. It also might be that it just has to work it's way out of your system. There is hope though because other than a few random itchy spots here and there mine is basically gone.
