I had the Mirena for a little over a year. While it was in my periods all lasted at least 2 weeks, and I started having terrible pain in my hips, to the point where it was painful to walk. I read online that joint pain is a side effect, so I had the Mirena removed. The pain went away within a couple months of removal, and my periods have returned to normal. Also, the strings hurt my husband during intercourse to the point where he didn't want to have sex.

I began having right hip pain a month after the mirena was inserted. I assumed it was from running. All the doctors I have seen for the past year stated I strained a muscle. They ordered MRI's and physical therapy. I have completed all, but still have the same hip pain-over a year now. Did your hip pain stop completely after your mirena was removed? I am considering getting it removed. Although the doctors tell me they are not connected, I can't help but think there is a coincidence.
