I am a 39 year old female in relatively good health. In the past year since taking Lipitor, I have had SEVERE thinning of my thick hair. I have lost nearly 2/3 of it, and luckily I had a lot, but I am thinning more quickly on the top of my head and you can now see my scalp. After reading this, I am stopping my Lipitor, tonight. I hope that my hair returns ... I have also had chest pain, leg pain, trouble sleeping, trouble with eyesight, trouble focusing, unexplained weight gain and extreme fatigue. I think I would rather take my chances with high cholesterol than be bald at 40. Nice eh? I complained to my doctor when my hairdresser called this to my attention, and she poo-pooed it and referred me to a dermatologist- who after months of waiting rescheduled. I will be BALD!

Good that you stopped this dangerous drug. If necessary, there are natural producvts and alternatives to control cholesterol. Unfortunately, most drs. don't know about the side effects or don't care . . . .all they know is to push drugs. The drs. and the drug co's have a HUGE racket also.

if you're in good health, you don't need lipitor. all it will do is ruin your health. how high was your cholesterol anyway? surely at your age, at any age for that matter, you can bring your numbers down with diet & exercise. imagine, at your age to be put on a "lifetime" drug- you would have made a tidy some for the drug company
don't ever take that stuff again. don't let a doctor talk you into trying another brand- they are all the same

Your comment about your doctor "Poo-pooed" your side effects is becomming a real common word now. I have research statin side effects daily for years now, and you would be surprised how many people use that verbage when describing their doctor's response to the patients complaint of side effects.

I can say with all honesty that customer service in physician offices has deteriorated to a level well below any other industry. Its a shame that physicians have to school for 12 years, and end up with customer service skills below that of a kid's lemonade stand.

There are some really good physicians out there, but as with most professions, 20% don't know what they are doing. 70% are just average. 8% are really good. And 2% excell at what they are doing.

Seems like I'm in the same boat as a lot of people here. My dr. started me on Lipitor 40mg last year then raised it to 80mg. I started getting slight buring type chest pains with some sharp pains on the upper right side on my chest. The sharp pains increased when he raised me to 80mg. In Feb. 2008, I started to complain. He blew me off at first and then I ended up in the hospital for 2 days taking tests in March 2008. All the tests came back fine and my dr. explained the pains as "spasms" caused by "low flow" and told me to ignore then because it wasn't my heart...WHAT?? He gave me 2 other meds for the spasms. In Nov 2008, the sharp pains were daily and throughout the whole day. I started to research chest pains with lipitor and could believe the stories I read. It was as if I wrote them myself. I stopped taking lipitor on Dec 2, 2008 and within 2 weeks the sharp pains are almost by gone. I'm still having the slight burning feeling sometimes and was wondering how long this will last take to completely go away.
