I began having right hip pain a month after the mirena was insert...

I began having right hip pain a month after the mirena was inserted. I assumed it was from running. All the doctors I have seen for the past year stated I strained a muscle. They ordered MRI's and physical therapy. I have completed all, but still have the same hip pain-over a year now. Has anyone had hip pain due to the mirena? And did your hip pain stop completely after your mirena was removed? I am considering getting it removed. Although the doctors tell me they are not connected, I can't help but think there is a coincidence.

I have had joint pain on and off with the Mirena. The hip pain has been the weirdest by far--it felt stiff, like I had to pop it back into place. I swear I thought I was 88 and not 38. At first I thought my pain was due to marathons and the training involved. But since Mirena removal, 3 weeks ago, I can run and feel no stiff joints except for normal post exercise soreness. I have only had one issue with the hip and am guessing it's because my period is due. I am hoping that as time goes by and my body gets back to normal, the side effects will dissipate. I hope this helps. Take Care!

I too had hip and knee joint pain and since having my removed yesterday the pain has gone...I would talk to your doctor. Mine said it can happen but I was her first case of it that she has seen but everything effects everyone differently, but yes I had HORRIBLE hip and knee joint pain!

I have had the Mirena since Dec. 2006. I am now experiencing the hip pain - pretty severe that goes from my left hip to the right hip and the pain also radiates down my legs, into my knees. I am otherwise healthy except for carpel tunnel which I had before Mirena. I decided to look into side effects of the Mirena because of this hip/back pain that is making me feel as if I am 90 years old. I also have had intense nausea(like morning sickness 24 hours a day), weight gain, insomnia, no energy, fatigue, very irritable and not a nice person like I used to be. I have 5 children ranging from the ages of 2 to 16 and I am more moody than my 16year old!!! I have been suspicious of the Mirena but was told there were no hormones. I also am having the flutters as if I were pregnant to go with my belly that looks like I'm pregnant. I exercise, eat healthy( as much organic as I can afford) and am very optimistic. I believe in living a balanced life and am realizing how out of balanced I have become since the Mirena insertion. I always thought it was life in general especially with 5 children. My symptoms have become so bad this past week (especially the hip pain) that I am going to the doctors tomorrow and after reading these postings, I will have it removed. We want to set a positive example for our children and anything that makes us act otherwise isn't worth it! Our loved ones deserve better! And so do we!

YES!! I had mine inserted in January, 2009 and except for the constant (smelly - ew) discharge I hadn't had any problems until the last month or so. My right hip - out of the blue - started feeling almost as if it had popped out of joint it hurt so bad! I can't get comfortable at night and if I sit the wrong way I cry out in pain it hurts so bad when I try and stand up. I can't lift my grandsons (2 & 4) which is the most heartbreaking of all - I had NO PROBLEM with this before January! I have also gained over 20 lbs in 7 months even though I've been cutting back more and more as the weight goes on - it makes no sense. I have no energy - my house is a mess because I just don't give a sh*t most days - definitely NOT ME! I haven't experienced any acne or hair thinning as some have, but this joint pain makes me want to make an appointment to have this blasted thing removed. I am 45 years old (some days feel 85) and had the Mirena inserted to help relieve heavy periods and to get me over the hump til menopause.... I never thought I'd say this, but I'd rather deal with heavy periods again. :o(

Thank you, ladies, for all the valuable info. you've posted. It's because of everything I had read that I gained the courage to go and take the Mirena out after having it for almost a year and a half. I did it today, Sept 8 2009.
My symptoms were: hot flashes, which started with palpitations and would take place at least 10 times a day, also waking me up at night, sleepless nights, low back pain, vaginal itching and yeast infection, which I've never suffered from, sore back and neck.
The reason why I took it out was low abdomen pain and an ACUTE low back pain which had forced me to spend most of the time in bed for almost a week.
Good luck to you all. I would recommend reading and inquiring as much as you can before deciding to go for it. Most gynecologists don't even know about all the "other" symptoms we're complaining about! I decided to go to a woman gynecologist, as I thought she would be more empathic. On the whole she was, and at least didn't try to convince me to leave it or give me excuses..............

i had the mirena inserted 5 months ago.I have gained 7 pounds which is a lot on my frame 5'1"but am thrilled that my extremely heavy bleeding has stopped AND I AM NO LONGER extremely anemic. Last month i starting having hip pain that is constant on both sides.I am so glad to learn of this connection but dont understand why this Iud would give you hip pain?Is it a hormanal imbalance? what do i tell my dr to test for? I am going to see my internist and obg next week to see how they can explain this and what i can do.I have to stay on this as i was so anemic i had to get iron injected directly into my veins. I am 51 and there is no history of arthritis espescailly at this early age. I will follow other posts and thanks to everyone who posted! I actually googled mirena and hip pain to get here as nothing expalins this sudden hip pain. I have exercised consistently for 20 years and have always been moderate so none of this makes any sense at all.
