Hi,
Some people are still battling the effects of this drug for long after they stop taking it, in some cases-years. I hope your symptoms ease up soon. If you did not have arthritis before, the levaquin may have something to do with it now. For me the symptoms were mostly depression, anxiety, photosensitivity, alot of twitching all over, burning sensations, paranoia, major insomnia, tinnitus.... the list goes on. It has been six months since I took it and some things are still hanging around now.
Tell your doctor he better look up Levaquin on the FDA website too. They added a boxed warning to the quinolones this past summer. Unbelievable.
Also, you have three things together that should NOT be mixed... Levaquin, Prednisone, and NSAIDs. I had a horrible experience with Levaquin and Prednisone. I only took the Levaquin for 6 days. Thought I was inally getting better after 9 months and then my right distal bicep tendon spontaneously detached (completely) for no apparent reason. The tendon issues can occur LONG after you have stopped the meds. For the record, I am 48 yrs. old and WAS in great physical shape. Never had a tendon or muscle problem before.
I just passed the 2 year point and I do believe I am significantly better than I was but there are some enduring problems. Be careful!
I'm 40 and a mom of two. I've been taking Levaquin, sometimes 45 days strait to treat chronic sinus infections.. Now I have a bigger mess. I feel like I'm 90, getting out of a chair hurts, can't walk p & down stairs, my memory is shot completely, I'm on predisone all the time for joint pain, my back & shoulders feel like they're burning & tingling all the time, when I lay down you can see my legs twitching from muscle spasms, and constant headaches, and a few days ago I found out I've ad two previous strokes! I'm 40. I was diagnosed w\ Fibromyalgia but culdn't find anyone who had symptoms as bad as mine. I've been through the test & the Doctors... they can't find nothing. I'm starting to think it was / is the levaquin. None of this started until I started levaquin. I'm still on it, but I'm not taking another pill! See the doc tomorrow, I'm gonna talk to him about what I've found. I'm thrilled you guys have posted your stories, it helps others.. and I'm also deeply saddedned by the number of people who have lost the lives they once had... I completely relate.
My daughter was 27 yrs old. She got bacterial pneumonia and was hospitalized for 3 mo. The entire time she was in there they gave her levaquin intravenously. when she was released, she was still on the antibiotic via IV. That was 2 yrs ago. The bacteria was still in her body. the levaquin caused her so much pain, from the swollen joints to the headaches she constantly was in pain. The doctors of course continued to give her levaquin. I was not aware of the side affects of this terrible drug. My baby suffered from this horrible medicine until the day she DIED! On May 29 2009, she passed. and I believe that levaquin had a great deal to do with her death Every organ in her little body was bleeding, because the levaquin caused her liver damage, in turn the toxins remained in her body. Her death was such an unnecessary death. If you or anyone you know and love are taking this medicine, for GOD's sake, please research it, and have your doctor monitor your blood and liver functions. Or better yet, get the hell away from it. Find an alternative. I don't have an attorney, but everyone, including the hospital nurses, have been urging me to talk to one. I just want it out of commission. Judy Bierman Phelan, Ca.
