Don't give up. There is hope. You probably have many deficiencies caused by the drug. I have just gone off simvastatin too. Memory loss, carpal tunnel, confusion, extreme fatigue... But I have started a regimine of CoQ10, L-Carnitine (to rebuild mitochondria starved during statin therapy), vitamins C & E (anti-oxidants to strengthen immuno response), and selenium (depleted during stating therapy and now causing me thyroid complications) and MSM (for carpal tunnel). I don't know if I can get total recovery, but my research reveals that I can get a lot. Don't give up. I have decided to control cholesterol on my own, and have proven to the doctors I can do it without the drugs. It was challenging, but I lowered my cholesterol 68 points without it, and I am determined to never take another statin. I beleive that statin drugs are more dangerous than the high cholesterol. They frightened me into taking them because I lost my Mom this year of a heart attack. She was young. But I don't have to rely on a pill to make the changes - especially a pill that might extend my life but make it a miserable one!
I agree with the response above. Don't give up. I have been studying this for seven years now and have had some very surprising revalations. The wisdom of lowering LDL itself is now coming under question. While I am still researching the matter, the possibilty of increasing LDL to reverse statin damage may be a possibility. Many cardiologists now question lowering LDL and the medical community can't seem to agree, However sales and marketing push it because its their living to sell the drugs.
Now here is a shocker: The areas of the United States that tested with the highest levels of 'Bad cholesterol" have the lower rates of heart disease, and the best longevity. SOURCE: CDC, QUEST DIAGNOSTICS, HARVARD
