My son is 12 and has been taking Singulair for the last ten months...he has been getting moody and upset for no good reason over the last 3 months and I put it down to "hormones" starting to kick in. He has now gone to feeling very sad and has even told me last night that he has thought about killing himself several times and feels he can't go on, or cope and feels lost and lonely or unwanted and in the way. He is confused and does not understand what is happening to him. I have just realized it may be the Singulair and will be taking him off it immediately. I'm hoping it is this as if it isn't I feel totally helpless as to how to help my child. Please say a prayer for him. He used to be happy go lucky.

He and all the other kids are always in my prayers, the tradegy to this med is huge, please visit us at parentsforsafety.org to learn more. With my son ,who had the same symptoms,i saw a dramatic improvement in 3 days,he has been singulair free now for 10 months,we still suffer some lingering effects, but i am no longer concerned for his personnal safety.Good luck to you you are not alone,if you see the difference file a report with the FDA,and chew out your doctor,he should have been aware of the dangers

Your son has my prayers for a speedy recovery from his symptoms. My nine year old son also became depressed (among other things) while taking Singulair and when he stopped taking it, his mood improved within days. He has been Singulair free for about 4 months and has not displayed any symptoms of depression. Flindy is right: your son's doctor should have been aware of this. Depression has been on Singulair's label since April of 2007. There is NO EXCUSE for him not warning you about the risk of depression with this medication! Best wishes.

I really empathazie with what you are going through with your son--and you feel helpless when you see your son drifting into depression, insomnia and aggression (as in my case) Pls. read my posting back in July 2008. The improvement back to his funny, cheerful self was noticeable within a few days after being off that poison-Singulair. I also thought it was his age and adolescence-as he was on the med for about 3 years until his behaviour reached a pinnacle.I didn't recognize my sweet son anymore and wondered how did I fail as I love him with all of my heart. I saw some behaviour patterns return throughout the first few months. I am still scared of any permanent damage. It helped his ashtma (which is mild - weather and slight stress induced) The doctors still believe this drug is wonderful for millions of children..it is not worth the chance of losing your child . My prayers are with you and your son--please try to find an alternative. This site is wonderful and helped me so much through my heartbreak and guilt dealing with Singulair's destructive path in our children's health and mental well-being. Pls. file a report with the FDA..we must keep fighting ...
