My daughter was just diagnosed with this. She is 9 yrs old. I can not handle the thought of putting her on this medicine let alone any medicine. A good friend of mine told me about her "health" doctor. The doctor has lived with a thyroid problem with 25 years and does not take any meds. We go see her on Saturday for tests. Praying for a healthy solution. Maybe you could try the same in your area. See if they have any suggestions.
What are your thyroid numbers? All of your symptoms still suggest that your thyroid is still too slow. I bought the book The Thyroid Sourcebook for Women by M. Sara Rosenthal about two years ago and I treat it like my bible. I was never so informed from my doctors and specialists. All I ever heard was that I was in the range. According to her, your range should be between .5 and 2.5 for women. Mine was at 4.5 and I had all of your symptoms, especially the dry hair and hair loss. Tell your doctor to up your synthroid because you still don't feel like you should be feeling, and if you feel it's too strong, you can always go back down. But keep upping it until you feel good and your numbers are right, and be persistent!!!
Here' what it says..
10/28/2008 7/1/2008 2007 2006
TSH 1.41 1.71 4.08 4.28
TUP 36.1
FTI 9.96

Am I still low enough to have the dry brittel hair and al the hair loss and wieght gain?
Take Iodine....Iodine Plus. Google it. Google Iodine deficiency symptoms.
Then read about the Thyroid on Wikipedia. You will see the thyroid cannot function without iodine which means you cannot function without iodine.
The other thing to think about is chlorine, flouride and bromine (in flour) knock out the iodine you do have, making your conditions even worse.
You cannot overdose on iodine.....your body will excrete what it doesn't use, but if you suffer from low body temp i.e. lower than 98.6, you are iodine deficient! Also, if you are lacking fingernail moons you are iodine deficient......do your research on the web. It costs nothing. Doctors and naturopaths will give you the runaround for the most part. Iodine cannot be patented thus, no high dollars in this and if you feel better you won't need their services......follow the money!!!! but look for results and have faith that iodine will put your body in the position to heal!
I am 54 years old, have studied this out in search for the root problem of my health failing though I have a sterling diet, fresh air, sunshine, exercize. I had thinning hair, low energy, foggy thinking,
What about supplements, and is overdosing a potential problem?
Supplements of iodine may be an important source for individuals who do not eat seafoods, animal flesh, animal products, or iodised salt, or who have a greater requirement for iodine (such as pregnant or breastfeeding women).
Iodine is a listed ingredient in a range of multivitamin supplements available at health food stores, and the dose can vary from 50–150 micrograms per tablet. Kelp tablets are a type of seaweed extract, and can provide an alternative iodine source.
But check with your doctor before starting to take iodine (or any other) supplements. As applies to many supplements and over-the-counter drugs, too much iodine can be toxic. Although most individuals can tolerate a wide range of iodine intake, exposure to extremely high levels (above 1,000 micrograms per day) is potentially harmful. Excessive iodine intake is especially dangerous for those people with a predisposition to “Grave’s Disease”, because high levels of iodine can trigger this condition in susceptible people.
Use only those tablets that state the iodine content on the label, so you know how much you are getting. And, as mentioned above, don’t forget to check first with your doctor that the iodine content of the supplement is appropriate.
Is there anyone who should not take supplements of iodine?
People with certain thyroid disorders—those that result in an overactive thyroid gland (leading to hyperthyroidism)—are often recommended by their doctor to have low iodine diets. Individuals with a family history of thyroid disorders, or who have an existing thyroid problem, may need to take special care and seek medical advice from their doctor.
