As a mother of a child who died of suicide as a direct result of the lack of information given on this drug, I did not know what to look for in regards to side effects. You on the other hand are the lucky recipient of the fight to get all the information where it needs to be.My sons death and our fight as his parents has brought the information to where it should have been when it was prescribed back in 2007.I am so happy to hear that your pharmacist was well informed and chose to use her voice but, I am saddened that your doctor never told you about the very serious side effects that children have been suffering.Talk to your doctor and visit our www.parentsforsafety.org website make a copy of the information and hand it to him,see what he has to say!!!!!Spread the word and help many ,there are so many parents out there trying to help. You can be a voice for safer prescriptions and a better communication line between doctors and patients about the risk to benefit ratio and being completely informed to make that decision on a prescription.Thank your pharmacist from all of us that have suffered!!!!!!!Good Luck with your prescious child.Kate Miller
If any pharmacists read this - please do what this woman's pharmacist did and warn patients to learn about the side effects of the drugs they take.
Please tell them about www.dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/ and tell them to register with the FDA's email update service!
When I saw my son this morning, I hugged him as I never have before. I cried to my husband last night, when I read the post where the mom wrote that she finally met her child after taking him off Singulair. How deeply sad is that? After all, I may have poisoned him last night and I felt awful. Kate, I wish that you had that chance too. I've joined a group on Facebook, which is where many moms are these days. My intent is not to jundge anyone, but to raise awareness. Although my child is "healthy" now, I will not stop fighting for this cause. I am sure that the pharmacist will know that she made an impact and maybe in her pharmacutical community she can spread the new too. I will inform her of the families that I read about and those that send their thanks as well. Thanks to you - YOU are the reason why my son has been (possibly) saved. After all, if you and other moms had not posted their stories, I would not have made the decision that I did. My best to you and your family. Kristen
My doctor has insisted too that this medication is ok. That the mood changes aren't from the Singulair. But don't listen to them....Please. My son has been on the Singulair for about three months in the spring and about two months in the fall for allergies for 3 years. It is a wonder drug with runny noses, itchy eyes etc. But it would always turn my happy, easy going, sweetheart of a son into a nearvous, weeping mess. I thought it was the price we had to pay for seasonal relief. This week my son is crying uncontrollably over everything and worried about everything else. Last night he shared some very dark thoughts with me and it scared me. After reading these blogs I KNOW it's the Singulair. He's taken his last dose. No 6 year old should have to deal with this. There must be a better way.
