MEMORY LOSS, acne, mood swings, fuzzy mind, dizziness, dry hair, ...

MEMORY LOSS, acne, mood swings, fuzzy mind, dizziness, dry hair, low sex drive, insomnia, depression, feeling like a baby was kicking inside my belly. I had Mirena put in February 2008 and it is now one year later. I have had such extreme memory loss for several months now that I was really starting to feel like I was losing my mind. I am only 32 and have the memory of an 85 year old. My mind was so fuzzy I almost couldn't function some days. I attributed it to lack of sleep because I've also had a lot of insomnia over the past few months. I started drinking more and more coffee to wake my mind up and get rid of the fuzzy feeling, it seemed to help but certainly attributed to my insomnia so it was a vicious cycle. After reading all the other posts, I am getting it taken out ASAP. I also experienced the dry hair, acne, mood swings and low sex drive. I really hope I get my mind back once it's gone!

I had all the side effects you listed and more...I also had heart palpitations, dizziness, bloating, headaches. The memory loss was really frightening to me...I would forget what I was going to say mid-sentence....I could not function at work because I would forget what I was supposed to be doing, forget a conversation of just an hour before. I, too, felt movement in my belly...WHAT was that about?? Between the brain fog and the insomnia, I thought I would lose my mind. The cystic acne didn't help, either. I only had mine 5 months because of all these side effects. I'm happy to tell you that I could literally feel the difference walking to the car after removal...it felt like one of those Claritin commercials where they peel back the fuzzy film. The acne cleared up within 2 months -- no new zits, it just took that long for the ones that were there to go away. I had such a hormonal imbalance because of Mirena that I went into early menopause within 3 months of removal...I never got my period after removal (I was always normal prior to Mirena...I was 43 at the time, so a bit older than you!). Removal did not hurt a bit. Despite the menopause thing (I am now on bio-identical HRT, estrogen and progesterone and doing well with it, knock on wood....have to take it till I get to a more normal meno age, about 5 years from now), I felt positively giddy after removal...I could see myself improve day by day. You will get your mind back!!! Good luck to you.

Susanne

I had the Mirena IUD put in about 6 weeks ago and I have noticed an increase in acne, dry hair, cramping, long periods, and weight gain. I'm having it removed ASAP. All Mirena seems to do is diminish natural beauty...not exactly what I had in mind. I thought my sex drive sucked on the Nuva Ring, but with Mirena it's non-existent.
