I've been on Yasmin/Ocella for 2 years, and the other week I had two panic attacks, like my body suddenly felt achey, trembly, as if I couldn't breathe, my throat and chest were constricting. After a long time, both passed, but since then I constantly have felt a tightness under my jaw, lump in my throat, and chest tightness on and off. My doctor told me I was just experiencing anxiety but now I think it may be Yasmin, even though I never had problems until now. Sometimes the skin on my throat feels itchy/tingly in a subtle way. If anyone has had these experiences with the throat & chest on Yasmin, I'd like to know because I'm hoping the problem is this.

My daughter experienced some personality changes - more anxious, more depressed - soon after starting on Yasmin. She was told by the nurse that "it took a while to get used to Yasmin." Then she developed shortness of breath and "funny little bloody noses". She was told it was just anxiety. Three days later she was dead from Pulmonary Emboli (blood clots in the lungs). I urge you to be very cautious. Do not accept a diagnosis of anxiety unless you have been thoroughly checked out for blood clots. Anxiety is ONE of the symptoms of Pulmonary Emboli. The others are shortness of breath and pains in the chest. Blood clots can also form in the legs or in the abdomen. READ the little insert that comes with Yasmin. The symptoms of blood clotting are buried in very small print in the middle of the insert booklet. Google DVT and Pulmonary Emboli and KNOW the symptoms.

The incidence of blood clotting with birth control pills is approximately 4 out of 1000 women PER YEAR. If a woman has a blood clotting disorder such as Factor V Leiden the incidence jumps to approximately 30 out of 1000 per year. If you have a history of blood clots in your family you may want to have a screening test for Factor V Leiden. It is NOT uncommon - about 1 out of 20 people have it. After she died, we discovered that my daughter did. She should never have been on birth control pills with this risk factor.

My hope is that my sad story will prevent someone else from dying an unnecessary/preventable death. Please be cautious.

I have just stumbled on to this sight because of all of "issues" I have been having with Yasmin/Ocella. I have been on many different pills and am currently skipping the last week of the pack because my obgyn thinks I have a torsion ovary. Anyway as I am typing this I am having my chest tightness going on. I have just started a new pack. I have been thinking that I am crazy! I get VERY moody, screaming at the kids for the silliest of things then breaking down in tears because of the way I have treated them. And sex drive? I have none...I have had it with the pill, but because I may have this torsion ovary thing going on my obgyn wants me to trying skipping the last week of the pack until my appt on the 29th. I am glad to know that I am not the only one with these issues...I was really starting to think I was crazy!
