I got the Mirena put in in October 2007. I had just lost all my post baby weight and was feeling GREAT. then I immediately gained 20 lbs. I tried EVERYTHING to lose it. I went to extremes...power walking 5 miles a day, going to fitness classes, lifting weights, bicycling up hills, playing soccer with my kids. AND eating very healthy, small portions, minimal fats, no starches, or sugars, no eating out ever. NOT ONE POUND moved. What is so weird is the way the weight came on. It is all concentrated in this perfect little round bump on my belly making me look about 4 months preg. I can tell there is a lot of water there and I retain water terribly. I bloat all over so badly by the end of the day, I have to unzip my pants (even though I barely eat). I went to my doc thinking something is wrong and she assured me it wasn't my IUD but my age!!! After reading these and other posts, I was amazed to see SO many other symptoms I have been having since Oct. of 2007 that I Never attributed to the Mirena!!! My breasts hurt, my energy levels are up and down. I have had a terrible time emotionally, handfuls of hair falling out, NO SEX DRIVE, (don't have acne), irritable, depressed, impatient, headaches, complete space cadet, inability to make decisions, etc. All this since the Mirena was put in. I TOO want my body back and my SELF back!! I have an appointment in TWO Weeks from today to get it out and I cant wait!!! This can NOT be healthy!! I will report back to you and let you know what happens. L.

I had the same thing -- that pooch around the belly. It was bloating...because when I got it removed, I could literally feel the difference in how my clothes fit the very next day and by 3 weeks later, it was GONE! And, like you mentioned, the bloat got worse over the course of the day. I was one size in the morning and by evening had gone up at least one pant size. I, too, looked the same way I did when I was 5 months pregnant! Good luck to you. Besides the bloat being gone, the best thing is noticing your concentration coming back, headaches going away, etc. Take care.

I got yhe mirena in when my daughter was 7 months old (she is now 21 mos). I remember bleeding a lot during the first month or so and then getting regular periods. No symptoms at all. I started working out and eating really healthy 1200-1500 calories a day, 4, 1 hour spinning classes a week, and 2, 1 hour toning classes a week. I have been doing this for a year now. The only thing I have to show for it is 5 extra pounds, a bigger stomach, and a new size 12 wardrobe. It is gross. I called my dr. this morning to get it taken out!!
