A parent's instinct is usually right! How do your daughter's doctors account for the change? Or can they? Anyway, congratulations! As the mother of a little boy who suffered terribly from this drug, it always warms my heart to hear another "success story"!
Please visit the "NEWS" page at www.parentsforsafety.org and share the information - especially that from the FDA and the Institute of Safe Medication Practices with your daughter's doctors.
Also posted on our website are "unofficial" adverse reactions that our children have experienced, parents have reported to us, or we have learned about on sites such as this.
Your daughters doctors are completely uninformed. Psychiatric side effects have been on Singulair's label for YEARS. Just because they were identified through post-marketing reports (which are how many side effects end up being identified because the number of people in clinical trials are usually far fewer than the number of people actually taking a drug once it has been approved) does not mean they are not valid.
Additionally, as the FDA explains, in trials that are not designed to evaluate psychiatric effects, psych. adverse events may not be reported!!!!
This kind of closemindedness is why SO MANY children have suffered for so long fro the side effects of Singulair!!!
Oh, by the way, the FDA Medical Review for Singulair indicates that a participant taking montelukast in the clinical trial dropped out due to depression and the investigator labeled it as drug related:

on the following pages you will see that participants taking montelukast DID report depression! Tell THAT to the doctors!
My 7 year old daughter started on Singulair in early December. Her teacher has been emailing me every day since school started back (for two weeks) because of her behavior in class. She said, "This is just not like her". She has been stealing from other kids in the class and doesn't want to accept "no" for an answer. The other night she yelled "No and You can't make me" to one of her teachers at church. We are really concerned because this such irrational behavior from her. After finding out that a friend had to take her daughter off Singulair for mood swings and behavior problems we looked into it and found this site and many other postings about Singulair. We called her doctor and she took her off the medication immediately. I'm so angry that it is possible she is acting this way because of this medication. She has hurt her friends by stealing and yelling at them, but she has also been beating herself up saying things like she's a horrible person, a thief and a liar. How could a 7 year old even think that about herself? It just blows my mind. I'm anxious to see how much of a change she makes in the next few days, and I'm certain this is because of the Singulair. Too much has happened in such a short period of time to make her change that much.
I have a 5 1/2 year old son who was on singulair for 3 weeks, after the 1st week he woke up from terrible nightmares and his heart racing. This is a child whom was a sound sleeper until then. I first thought it was just a phase, but he continued to have these every night for the next two weeks. When I had his follow up appointment I mentioned this to his doctor and also let her know that he has been having anxieties about being alone. That day his doctor discontinued the singulair and we are currently trying another medication. That night and for the last week, he has not had one bad nightmare, and has been able to sleep through the night. I'm so happy that I stopped using singulair, I wouldn't want to find out what else would have happened.
I agree with you i am so angry about singulair, this is the 2nd time my recently 6 year old daughter has been prescribed it. We have been at the end of out tether with her mood swings, aggression , violent complaits og stomache promblems and many more. We have asked to be referred to a psyciatritist for children asv we couldn't understand her behaviour nothing would work and it was hard t o remember the golimmers of that lovely child i had. They would'nt refer me wanted me to have parenting classes "how to deal with your child" cost thing. After reading this site and particularly your message i was relieved, at least it wasn't her now i'm angry what if i hadn't come accross this site searched for an answer myself. I've taken her off them and 5 days later she's a different child, happy, laid back, kind and helpful again she is still taking the seretide inhaler (purple) that contains steroids and v. similar side effects but i can't take her of everything. She is due to see asthma nurse next week, so i wonder what she'll say. I wonder if you or anybody had problems with Amoxycillin syrup (yellow) i think, we had similar aggression probs and irritability with that. I will be taking this further Em
