I am a male 45 years and used simivastin another statin for three and a half years. Over this time i had severe muscle pain at time then about 4 months ago the muscle pain in my legs came on with a vengeance. It started in both thighs then calfs got very tight sore ankles feet and eventually got in to my arms. A deep achey sort of a pain and an irritability that casesa feeling like a toxin in my inside elbows that makes me want to stretch all the time. I feel very weak compared to my former self. I tried many things to alleviate the pain but nothing really took the pain away or even decreased it much. sometimes i would lay and groan in agony. I especially noticed that draghts and weather changes made me feel worse????. I stopped taking the simivastin 6 weeks ago. I have not had a lot of improvement but must admit thet i have been trying to push my self over this and probably done more damage. My ck levels are normal but my liver enzyme is increased a little. I started also to take q10 and L- carnitine along with magnesium. I might be improving a little each day but nothing definite. I saw a rheumatologist who has no diagnosis and isn't to committal on whether the statin is to blame. He put me on celebrex which has finally given me some relief. Can anyone relate to the worsening of symptoms with cooler changes in weather? and is there anything else i could do to hasten recovery? Thank you to all contributors on this board although it is the first time i have contributed this board has been a scores of help to me.

Good that you stopped taking the dangerous drug. Unfortunately, since you took it for years, it will probably take time until you feel better. There are many natural products that will help and alternatives. Drs. don't know about the side effects of the drugs that they continue to push. Celebrex is another dangerous drug. The weather is not causing your problems . . . . . the poison.

TRY USING BROMELAIDE AND WARMTH / A HEATING PAD. I ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING MORE PAIN AS SOON AS THE WEATHER GETS COLD. I'M DONE WITH THIS STUFF. I'LL DIE WITH HIGHT COLESTEROL FIRST....

Despite the hyped up claims of statins saving lives, the truth in hard core numbers about lipitor are this:

Lipitor has an Absolute Risk Reduction (ARR) of about 1%. This means that if you are a middle aged male with risk factors, 99 other guys with the same risk profile will have to take lipitor with you for a peroid of over 3 years to spare one man a cardiac event.

Not all events result in death. We have all been taught that 50% of events end up in sudden death. Applying this statistic means that only half of the events spared are life saving, meaning 198 other guys in your catagory will have to take the drug with you for over 3 years to save one life.

The benefit of Lipitor is 1/198th that it will save your life, and the risks to your health is very high as you can see on this site.

I chose higher cholesterol. Besides, the honolulu heart study shows us that elderly people with higher cholesterol live longer healthier lives.

Sales and marketing hype has gone way ahead of medical science on the cholesterol issue. I think we have been bamboozled.
