I have experience confusion, memory loss, problems carrying out normal daily functions. Have you seen the commercial where people stop smoking and they can't carry out normal daily routines? They put their pants on wrong, get in the back seat to drive the car, make coffee without the filter, etc. This is exactly how I feel. I have been battling with depression for over 20 years and changed my antidepressant about 16 months ago, when I also started lisinopril. A couple of months later, my dear friend committee suicide and my depression has worsened greatly. Thought my anitdepressant wasn't working. Doctor just changed my antidepressant. Now I wonder if it's the lisinopril instead of my antidepressant.
I take Lisinopril 20 with no ill affects, but had your exact symptoms last spring. I was so concerned I asked to be tested for Alzheimers. After thorough questioning by my rheumatologist and internist they decided the most likely cause was sleep deprivation. They were right. My fibromyalgia was causing abnormal brain waves resulting in a lack of deep sleep (I would sleep a max. of 90 minutes and then be WIDE AWAKE, then the process would repeat two or three time a night). I was prescribed Lunesta, which I resisted due to a previous negative experience with Ambien (groggy, confused, hangover effect). However, I gave it a try and a short course of Lunesta put me right. If I get back in a bad sleep cycle, I take Lunesta for a short period to "reset" my clock". Anyway, this was a long way of my saying that your symptoms exactly match mine when I am sleep deprived. There are many, many health conditions that affect sleep so you may want to check into. Best wishes for feeling better soon. Val
The memory loss is a moster. Sometimes (often) I lose my thought in the middle of thinking it -scary. I did not think it was the meds until I just read your email. MY BP has been a steady 117/76 for over 4rs now. I only take it when I get extrememly stressed ans start having headaches. I pray a lot. Meds are no joke, I keep my colon clean too, you must eliminate the toxins that have built up in your system form foods, meds and all the junk in yiour instestines from birth. A laxaitive is not going to do it. Try a colon cleanser or colonic and you will be amazed how headaches, joint pains go away.
Now I just talked to a dr and now I having thinning bones and have to take Fosomax along with Vit D & calcium. I will be 56, has a hysterectomy about 15 yrs ago and never had to take hormone pills. Wel there is nothing like thin bones I guess, but I rather take Vitamins then BP medicine any day of the week.
Stay healthy ( clean your colon) read about it on the internet
bellabear,
PLEASE READ ALL: First of all, consult a doctor that is willing to work with you concerning your side effects, but make sure you let them know that you want to come off of this junk asap. I am not giving advice, but I am giving my testimony of how lisinopril was effecting my quality of life. Lisinopril and Nasonex are the only medications I take.
I started Lisinopril in November. For the first 2 plus months I was feeling better then all of the sudden I started having a lot of difficulties. Keep in mind I have been eating a lot better, I have lost 20 plus pounds since then, I exercise each day and I feel like I am 10 years youngs.
Here are a few of the effects I experienced. depression, anxiety, tight chest, pain in my side, excess mucus in my esophagus, head aches, loss of short term memory, stomach pain, jitters, confusion, fogginess in my head, lots of fatigue, ED, trouble thinking, trouble concentrating, decreased cognitive function, mental sluggishness, trouble solving problems or situations which require logical thinking and sequencing, and memory loss. I wanted to scream because these side effects were getting worse each day. I felt like I WAS dying.
I started wondering if this was something I was bringing on myself or maybe some chemical imbalance was occurring in my body. I FINALLY started praying that God would help me by making all of this go away. I then found this site and read some of the difficulties others were having, JUST LIKE MINE. I called my doctor's office and the nurse was told by the doctor for me to quit taking Lisinopril asap and to see him 3 weeks. I am now on day 2 of being off Lisinopril and I am feeling so much better. It hasn't complete left my body, because I am still having some of the side effects, just not as extreme. I went to bed late last night due to watching college basketball, so I am a little tired today.
As the days go by I am confident I will continue to feel even better. Keep in mind my dosage is only 10mg. For the next 3 weeks, I am going to take herbal supplements and check my BP each day and see what happens when I go back to the doctor.
Well, it's not me with the side effects but my husband. He never took a drug in his life!! Was on this poison for way too long (about 15 months before we made the connection) which lead to depression and then an anti-depressant. So, one drug just leads to another and another and another. He's been off now since Sept 08 but is still struggling with the logical thinking, concentration, trouble solving problems and easily overwhelmed with what "used to be" the smallest of tasks. Work had begun to notice and now, we've had an MRI which indicates brain shrinkage. He is not the only one on this site that had an MRI that showed brain shrinkage. My husband is 59 and the other person was 36. Now, we are waiting results of a Spect Scan (brain) because they are suspecting possible early onset Alzheimers. I think they are absolutely wrong. He had no issues until he began this Lisinopoison! He looked like he was on another planet. When you try to discuss this drug with the Doctors, they laugh at you!! They think your nuts! I think this drug is mimicking symptoms of Alzheimers and destroying the brain. It definitely breaks the blood brain barrier to cause the depression. Do you wonder why Alzheimers is becoming an epidemic...because the Doctors are prescribing these blood pressure medications that are altering the brain. Lisinopoison is an Ace Inhibitor. Do the research in Wikipedia....read about it. They use a derivitive from a poisonious Brazlian Snake Viper in Ace Inhibitors. Helllooooooo....do you think a derivitive from a poisonious snake would affect the brain??? I certainly do....He is off all Meds but I do believe he has permanent cognitive impairment as a result of this drug.
Get off and stay off! Thank you for your reply.\
yes, indeed as well as other symptoms which seemed to get worse every day. I was only on this poisonous med for 4 days. It is contraindicated with people who suffer from sulpha allergies as well as other allergic conditions. It is also contraindicated with people who have history of severe dehydration.
I have been on this drug due to high blood pressure for over 2 years now. I have had strange memory difficulties e.g not remembering names/event. I recently had an MRI scan which shows the shrinkage of my brain. Altough my GP has trefered me to the consultant but still disagree that its the Lisinopril that is acusing this!
Godisgood, I doubt that the medicine has not "left body". I think that medicines are usually eliminated within about 24 hours. But your body may needs to get 'readjusted' to life without Lisinopril. Almost the same thing.
See my replies to other recent posters (last 6 months). I had lots of trouble with Lisinopril.
Sorry for the typo. Should read, "your body may need to...".
