I started using Yasmin 2 weeks ago & am having serious problems like heaviness in my chest, short breath, nausea, headache, acidity. At one point I felt as if I got an heart attack! My physician sent me for an ECG yesterday & I am worried about the results! I hope to recover from all these side effects soon because my work is getting affected due to discomfort.

Did your physician test you for blood clots? Shortness of breath is one of the symptoms of pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs). If your symptoms worsen I suggest you seek immediate medical attention.

Hello Mona.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. The person who posted before me is right. I would definitely get checked for blood clots too. However the risk of this occurring isn't considerably high. Just trying not to freak you out here. Don't forget however that it IS serious and it it is REAL. Maybe ask the doctor for what is known as a d-dimer test. If it is negative you don't need to worry as this test is at least 95% effective in testing for clots.

I went through much the same as what you described and I am still recovering from it. In 2 days it will be my 9th month off Yasmin. I was fit and healthy.. and I was only 20 years old (21 now). I had the chest pains. shortness of breath, heart palpitations etc. Hair loss, panic attacks, dizziness, migraines, stomach aches, skin rashes. You name it, I had it. So I guess you could say it hit me pretty hard.

I had countless ECGs done, a kind of heart ultrasound and had to wear a holter monitor for 24 hours. They discovered that I had atrial ectopic beats - bigeminy and trigeminy. Upon going to a cardiologist i was told that these beats werent anything to be overly concerned about. Its hard not to be scared though...

The first step is getting off the Yasmin. Do this immediately. It's done damage to your body so what you have to do then is to help your body heal. I would recommend the basics to start off with:

1) Take a good multivitamin
2) Eat a balanced diet consisting of lots of fruit and veg and lean protein
3) Get rest and relaxation. Don't push too much or you will just make matters worse (as I did)

Just stay strong and dont doubt yourself. It IS the Yasmin, Also, i would avoid using the pill again. Any sort... I would never risk it again.

It does get better with time. Stay positive!
