Hello! My name is Angelita and I am so happy that I found this website. I had the Mirena put in about 4 months ago. Thank "GOD" I had it taken out today. I've been dealing with headaches, fatigue, hair loss, acne, mood swings, upper and lower back pains, insomnia, cramps that felt like contractions, weight gain, hot flashes and joint pain as well. I seriously feel as though the "DEVIL" lives with in me, because I have been so mean towards my family. Taking all the strength with in me that at times I don't even want to get out of bed. I don't even want to leave my house to spend time with my family, because I am to tired to get up and get ready, and I feel ugly due to my weight gain and acne out breaks. For 4 months Mirena has stolen my life! I demanded yesterday that my doctor take it out! I told him that if he did not have the time to send me to another doctor who did because I wanted it out! He called me in the morning and asked if I could be there at 2:00, with a big smile I showed up. It didn't hurt when he took it out, but I did feel like a rush around my pelvic area. I felt like a drain sort of speak. Pressure like a period was about to start, although I have not started to bleed. Does anyone know when I should expect to bleed and when will all the other symptoms go away?

Hi angelina! I had my iud removed on Tuesday. I had it in for 8-9 month, it was the worse 8-9 months of my life. It was like being pregnant again. To answer your question I started bleeding around Wednesday afternoon. SO a day after removal. It is like a period, only the cramping is almost non existent compared to the cramps I had every single day for the past 8 months.
There are many women complaining of side effects and for some reason mirena, and doctors deny any of these. It's just a little too ironic that when I had my Iud removed this week I found out 3 of my friends had theirs removed as well recently. Other symptoms I had were, cramping, fatigue, extreme bloating!!! I looked 4 months pregnant and I am 5'0 104 lbs so thats scary! depression, headaches, and terrible pms that started 2 weeks before the actual period... among other minor things that may or may not be related. The thing is... until the iud is out, its hard to tell where these symptoms are coming from. I really thought I needed to go on antidepressants! And couldnt figure out why i was so bloated! All the symptoms disappeared within a day and are getting better with each day!

Congrats to all of the intelligent women who listened to their bodies and did what was right for them... Doctors make mistakes too, and in 10 yrs we may be hearing about terrible things happening to IUD users.. I hope not tho
