Well-said. It took a bad experience with Avelox to stop my "chronic" antibiotic use" for my chronic sinus infections. Doctors are too quick to prescribe meds these days.
You should only take antibiotics for sinus infections if you have thick mucus for several days up to a week. Otherwise (as you stated here), you can remedy the problems through other means. For that horrible face pain? Take Advil. Take an OTC sinus medicine for a few days. But people, do NOT keep taking antibiotics.
Instead of going to the doctor for my last bout of sinus problems, I used a Neti pot and a (pure) saline nose spray (not medicated). I make sure my nasal passages stay open (key in staving off sinusitis). I also take probiotics each day (one pill with a meal) - not "medically proven" to ward of infections but I have been sinusitis free since my last attack in late November.
Knowing now what I do, I can't believe I was being prescribed (and taking) antibiotics over and over again - as often as every other month.
