I've only been taking this drug for two days - 25mg in the evening - and I've already got side effects. I get tingling in my fingertips, and all down along the bottom of my fingers. I've been feeling nausea as well, and writing this, my brain feels a little blocked and slow. I also think I'm losing my appetite, which could be a good thing, considering that I do need to lose weight. But I don't think it is worth it if I end up getting side effects like the ones that have been posted by other people. I'm a writer, and I cannot afford to lose my memory, or suddenly not remember how to spell words, or to communicate effectively. Should I stop taking Topamax?

I've been on Topamax for almost a year.

These are natural side effects, and promise me- they WILL go away!

Give it a few weeks,
like any drug- your body needs time to adjust

but after that... smooth sailing!
even your appetite comes back

These are normal side effects and trust me when I say they will subside!

Like any drug, your body needs time to adjust.

It has the nickname "dopamax" but it doesn't happen to everyone. You only experience it at first, but even your appetite will return in a few weeks.

I would say if you were having terrible side effects continiously well into your 3rd month then think about stopping the drug.

This drug has helped me control my weight at 50mg/day from other medications I take, and it has helped decrease the amount of prescription migraine medication I take. I don't even notice anything about this med anymore... No side effects nothing.

I hear your side effects get worse as you increase in mg's....
but your fine with your dose.

You don't even have interactions with birth control until much higher of a dose.

Watch the nausea. My son ended up nauseated most of the time. He couldn't get out of bed. The doctors didn't believe it was the topamax, but he no longer takes it and the nausea is gone. He also stammered trying to think of the words he needed to say.
