My son is 8 and for the past 3 years has been on Singular for seasonal allergies. He has since been diagnose with asthma and he takes Singular daily. After being on it for 3 weeks he is now getting into trouble in school. The teachers say it was like a light switch being turned on. Completely out of character behavior. My question is this......has anyone experienced hyperactivity behavior on Singular?

yes, yes and YES. long term use led to irratibility, fear, self-doubt, hallucinations, anxiety, loss of appetite, stomach and body aches, nightmares, facial tic...just to name a few. you are so fortunate to have recognized it early. research this site, askapatient.com and parentsforsafety.

my son was 7 years old when i made the discovery. he had been under singulair treatment for 3 years. any questions, please feel free to PM me. good luck and again, you are very fortunate to have made this discovery so early on.

I am having the same exact issues with my child. My daughter is 6 and has been on Singulair for the last year and a half. After reading this, I am stopping her Singulair immediately. My child has horrible behavior issues such as temper tantrums, night terrors, does not sleep at night..Multiple somatic complaints.."my stomach, leg, head hurts..". Also the "I hate you" started. Apologetic after outbursts and says "I don't know why I say these things." We are considering starting her on Clonidine for outbursts as recommended by a child psychiatrist. Her bahavior has become completely out of control and I end up in tears daily. I totally sympathize with all the parents here having the same issues.

Wow, this is exactly what my wife and I are going through with our 8 year old son. It never dawned on me that it could be the Singular. Our doctor assured us that there were no side effects. I am really starting to dislike doctors and their "majic pills". If I had not read this, I bet our doctor would have had a pill to correct his behavior and i'm sure he would have assured us it was safe. Thank you all and god bless.

My eight year old son has been on Singulair for three weeks and he is a totally different child. He always does very well in school. About the time my husband and I began discussing his inattentiveness, the teacher called wanting to set up a conference to discuss why his grades were dropping. I'm taking him to the pediatrician tomorrow. I want my son back!

My son is now 9. He has been off Singulair for a little over a year. We went through everything described here......suicidal thoughts, hyperactivity, anger, aggression, sleep problems. Most of these symptoms improved dramatically after taking him off of Singulair. His asthma symptoms are almost non-existent since we made some diet changes. We follow a GFCF diet and the ADHD type behavior comes back if he slips off the diet. Even after a year.....I am wondering if the lingering ADHD problems are long term side effects from the Singulair or if he was predisposed. He was not ADHD prior to taking Singulair on a daily basis. He was on it daily for almost 1 and a half years and took it seasonally for several years before that. It makes me sick to think that perhaps all of this was avoidable.
