neurontin is a bullshit drug- it is only approved as a secondary treatment for epilepsy but since the drug company couldn't make blockbuster sales off a few lousy epileptics, they spent millions on bogus "medical" papers, doctors dinners and gifts, they did everything and anything to influence the prescribing habits of doctors.
their slogan was "neurontin for everything"- pain, anxiety, depression and for a while they got away with it. then there was a massive lawsuit and the company paid hundreds of millions of dollars for fraud.
sadly, doctors got used to prescribing it for alll kinds of things and they haven't changed their habits
before you let your doctor increase your dose of something that probably won't work for you, since i presume you are not an epileptic, you should ask him what his intention was in giving you this drug
Hi: I read your posting about using Neurotin. I noticed that you use it for vasculitis. I have temporal arteritis which is a form of vasculitis which causes inflammation in the arteries of the head. You have headaches with this type of vasculitis, so I wanted to caution you to check to make sure you don't have what I have. It causes your sed rate to go up....just wanted you to be aware.
propsguy, my doc took me off neurontin because even with the increased dose it did absolutely nothing for my pain, but there were alot of side effects. even if it did help the pain, i think i wouldve asked her to take me off it because of the side effects. i was not impressed with this drug at all. i read that alot of people have to taper down when they stop taking it because its like an addicting drug.........i cannot see how that could be. on top of that its expensive compared to other perscriptions im on, even with insurance.
hi raider,
im not really sure which kind of vasculitis i have. doc said large temporal, but i dont get headaches. i mainly have the really bad rash on the back of my leg, and my shoulders get sore alot. its been almost a year and nothing we have tried has worked. it gets very painful........burns like someone is holding a torch to my leg. next month im going to see a dermatologist and hopefully i will find out more. i still dont know much about the disease as i only found out what the rash was a few months ago. what is a sed rate?
