It produces artificial hormones that are only supposed to be localized to your uterous but of course those hormones are going to travel throughout your body! The hormones trick your body into thinking its pregnant so you wont get preg. Its both an IUD and a contraceptive device like the pill. Thats why its so effective. So when your body thinks its pregnant its going to "act" pregnant: fatigue, bloating, water retention, weight gain, breast tenderness, headaches, moodiness, nausea, hair loss or gain, acne....the list goes on. The longer you have it in the longer it takes to get yourself back and I believe that if its in for a very long time, there is irreversable damage. If its not in too long, the side effects subside little by little and sometimes even quickly. But there is a marked change upon removal because there is no longer some foreign hormone or chemical altering your body's natural chemistry.
mrsbarrett, thank you,.... I found that interesting & it answers the same question I had!
