This drug is lethal! I had a leg gash from falling over a fan in the gym which resulted in a MRSA infection. I ended up in the hospital with a violent reaction to SMZ-TMP DS which affected my central nervous system. I was out of control with severe pain in my whole body, nausea, headache, etc. Even after discharge, this drug was ordered to be continued!! Ended up in emergency again! What are these drug companies producing? And why are MD's not up on the side effects? I thought I was dying.

MDs are aware of the side effects. Drugs with such side effects are used sparingly for very resistant bugs (MRSA = methicillin resistant staph aureus). You may have felt like death, but the alternative to taking antibiotics is death. I assume that the TMP/SMX was continued because it was the best bet to cure you despite the side effects. Think of it as akin to cutting your toe off to stop gangrene. Sure you lose your toe, but you live.

I fell off a horse and had a bad leg injury. I was on amoxicillan for the first week and it was still infected. So my doctor prescibed sulfamethoxazole (bacrim) I had shooting pains all over my whole body inside and out, like nerve pains. It felt like needles where poking in my skin. It started 15 minutes after I took the pill. I stopped taking it immedieately and I am started to see hope that the pains are going away 2 days later. I fould out this can cause SJS/TEN which can be fatal. Tell everyone you know.
