I am 37, and developed a DVT in my left calf possibly due to birth control pills. I was tested for Factor 5 Leiden and since I was positive that may have been a contributing factor as well. Waking up in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning with excruciating pain was a daily occurrence and finally after 2 weeks of Lovenox injections and warfarin the pain subsided. I still experience post thrombotic pain in the back of my leg three months after starting the medication. My INRs are inconsistent and my doctor keeps changing my dosage. I have been avoiding all food that that can interact with the meds, it is extremely irritating. I have been doing an hour of low impact exercise daily and am looking forward to when I can finally go jogging and increase my cardio workouts. I can't wait till I can finally be off the medication it affects everything I do.

Hello anita72,
I posted a couple of months ago so I check back from time to time. I've been on Warfarin since October and hopefully will be off soon. It took awhile for my INR to even out, the first few months I was being tested every three days. Now I'm on 7.5 mgs daily and have been on the same dose for about three months and I'm getting tested every two weeks, so have patience. About your diet, it's more important to be consistent than it is to avoid all vitamin K foods. Every day I have either a small salad or broccoli, and I take a multivitamin every day. My doctor approved the vitamin saying that if I took it religiously I could take it. So far so good. Also, I started exercising slowly but now I'm up to an hour a day, pushing my heart rate to 140-165 so I'm back to getting really good workouts in. Hang in there. Also, one more thing you might have checked is your iron level. Anemia can cause leg cramping so if your iron levels haven't been checked lately, you might look into that. I wish you well.
