I must admit I am very surprised by all of the side effects of Advair. I have been taking Advair 250 for years and have NEVER had any problems. I'm 28, healthy, thin, and happy. I exercise several times a week. ALL drugs have side effects. I don't think it's fair for anyone to say "don't take Advair, it's a horrible drug" because it works for some of us. I was taking Flovent before but it didn't work for me. I needed a rescue inhaler several times a week. Since I've been taking Advair I don't even fill my prescription for my rescue inhaler! All drugs have side effects, but they don't effect all people!

i don't mean to burst your bubble but i'm 55 and have also taken advair for years without any adverse effects- at least without any that i noticed. my dentist did remark that my teeth were crazing and i sure saw that i was losing tons of hair in the shower but i didn't make any connection.
it was very convenient, although expensive, and i only took it once a day and never carried a rescue inhaler. i did often have a froggy throat but i also didn't put that together with advair.
recently i began reading more and paying attention to the black box warning, the increase in osteoporosis and the fact that many people here complained of hair loss, cracked teeth and a froggy throat.
i went to a kinesthesiologist who taught me breathing exercises and weaned me off advair. i know take the lowest dose of flovent, one puff every other day
the frist thing i notice is that i now only lose what i would consider the normal amount of hair in the shower and i haven't had a froggy voice.
here's what i would say to you- at 28, you have a whole lifetime ahead of you in which to take advair. these drugs have cummulative effects. they may not bother you now, but at 28, do you really want to do damage to your bones & teeth that won't show up until you are an infirmed old person?
mt friend took anti depressants for 15 years with, he thought, no side effects. in his 12th year, he developed crippling almost daily migraines and then chronic muscle pain in his arms. he never connected it with his meds- after all, he had been taking them for years. but after i got him off of them (using niacin), his headaches went away and after about two months, his arms stopped hurting.
my 87 yr old uncle still flies his WW2 bi-plane everyday but when he started having trouble walking, he stopped. of course, at 87, he assumed it was his age but it wasn't. when he stopped taking statin medication, his legs got better and he is back at the airport. he 85 yr old father developed a sudden rash that just wouldn't go away, but when he stopped taking statins, the rash started to clear up.
sometimes people are having side effects that they don't realize are side effects. and sometimes, they develop side effects so long after starting on the drug that they don't connect the dots.
wouldn't it be better to find out why you have asthma, what you're allergic to, what breathing exercises or dietary changes can help? do you really want to stay on advair for the rest of your life?

Well I am sorry to hear about your side effects however.....I know why I have asthma (allergies). My teeth are fine ( I go to the Dentist twice a year) My throat is fine, my hair is fine. Just because you had side effects doesn't mean everyone will. And like I said before, I took Flovent, it didn't work. And as far as osteoporosis I exercise regularly, drink losts of milk.....I'm actually a very healthy person. With any medication/surgery/ etc. there are risks. There are positives and negatives. It's nobody's place on this website to tell people not to take a certain drug. That is between them and their doctor to decide! This should be a forum to discuss the medication but not to pass judgement. And by the way, I have only had 1 cavity my ENTIIRE life!

I am a 39-year-old female and have been taking the lowest dose of Advair (100/50) for asthma for only 8 months. Twice a day to start and only once a day now. Sorry to say, but I now have 2 cracked teeth and have never had dental problems like this before. I just bought a dental guard because I thought I was grinding my teeth. But I became suspicious of the Advair and did a search and now see others have cracked teeth. After eating dinner tonight, I suspect I have at least one more cracked tooth. I'm calling Glaxo immediately to report this adverse effect. I needs to be on their label NOW.

I encourage anyone with an adverse effect to report it. GlaxoSmithKline has a request for contact on their website:

http://us.gsk.com/html/contact-us/index.html

Any adverse effects need to be reported in order to show up on the label and package inserts.

I have to agree with you, I feel great, it has been 2 months without using my regular inhaler but I have gained 10 pounds in 2 months. I don't know if Advair is the reason but I feel so good now that I don't think I could stop using it. I guess I am going to have to live on salads the rest of my life.
