I'm glad it is working for you. When I had it inserted it was not bad, but I've also had to children. My side effects did not start until about 1 year after I had it put in. That's when the fatigue and lack of sex drive hit. I actually lost some weight while I had it in. But gradually the mood swings, uncontrollable crying and just my life sucks feeling (and it does not) come along and then the weight gain and lack of loosing weight happened even when I was working out 5 days a week and eating right. I would just keep what you read in mind in case these side effects ever sneak up on you. Good Luck and I hope it continues to work for you!
Thanx happycchica. Your right. Does anyone have anything good to say about the Mirena? I have 5 children and I 've been wanting the Mirena for quite some time and looking into all these forums all I have heard were bad things. But I decided to see for myself because everyone is different. Like alot of people posted and said how painful it was to get inserted and I just got mine this morning and didnt feel a thing. I didnt realize they had even started and Im sure that s because I had 5 kids prior also I am on my period so the Dr told me it would be easier because my cervix was already open. I know it seems to early to speak on it but so far I forget that its there and my period has gotten very light and I usually have xtremly heavy 5 day periods. I have'nt noticed anything different yet. The only side effect I wouldnt mind having is the weight gain. then again if 5 kids cant do it, I doubt if Mirena will. Hopefully I wont have any horror stories to tell over the next few months..
Finally!!!! A happy/positive posting!!!! gosh-I just had mine placed less than a month ago-and after reading all these posts about hair loss, WEIGHT GAIN and depression-I'm horrified....so far I'm loving it......I sure hopes it stays this way!
Thank you. I had also heard nothing but bad from everyone but my dr. My best friend had mood swing constant spotting and hair loss. I am now very happy. I had spotting for about 3 months and a couple of extra periods but have now balanced out. The only thing I am noticing that is different is that my hair seems to growing faster than usual. I have been keeping my hair short, but need a hair cut about every 4 weeks. I can't afford to keep up with it and am thinking of letting it grow out again. Thanks again for the good news and I will second the motion.
I had a Mirena fitted at the beginning of April and I honestly thought I'd be one of those people who never stopped bleeding. I've had light spotting for the first couple of weeks, slightly heavier for the two days my period was due and I haven't bled for 4 days now, so I'm hoping things have settled. The only other side-effect I've noticed is a slight tenderness/bloaty feeling in my stomach for about an hour in the evenings like very very mild cramp. I can live with that if I never have to worry about taking contraception on a daily basis or having another period.
