I have been on lisiniprol with hctz on 10mg dose since October 2008. My BP averaged around 144/95 before taking the med, now averages about 122/78. The problem i am having is this constant "tickle" in my throat which has been giving me coughing fits. When i breathe in deep i can feel a sensation to cough, sometimes my throat feels tight and sore, the first time i felt this was December 2008 and the doctor said it was a touch of post nasal drip and this was before i have read stuff on this board. Has anyone else experienced this kind of sensation in the throat? sometimes when i talk i even have to cough, i experimented once and did not take my dose and it seemed my throat felt better but then noticed my bp went right back up, i guess i better tell the doctor to get me off of this drug. She did tell me that the cough was part of the side effect. thanks and hope someone answers this.

The couch comes from this Lisinopril for lots of us......I have found taking it during a meal or drinking milk first to coat your throat area reduces it. People have told me that this Lisinopril gives you internal hives that results in an irritation that makes you couch. But for me its not too bad.

I have cut my Lisionpril down to half which has helped alot.....it leaves my BP just a little higher which is fine too me. Have stopped it for a few days as well and yes up goes the BP after whats in your system wears off.

Would like to find something else myself but so far I have kept eating this stuff each day best I can, ( 3 months now ) in fear what ever I try next will do something worse !!

So try the milk trick it may help !!

Good luck keep us posted !!

I posted before and I am still having the coughing problem. My throat tickles so bad I can hardely keep from coughing. I also have spots on my head that are itching and I wonder if the same thing is happening in my throat. It feels like there is something that I need to cough up and can't do it. I am experimenting on not taking the pills. I am trying to do some sing-a-longs and the scratchy throat is a real problem.

Thanks, Myring78 and Cariboubill, makes me feel better to have such a nice support group here. yes this drug is actually affecting my voice now due to the tickle in my throat, im not sure what i hate more the constant tickle in my throat when i breath in deep, or the coughing afterwards. Sometime i feel embarassed couching so much in my office that my co workers say , are you ok?, funny one co worker i told about me taking lisiniprol and she said oh get off of that, my husband was on it due to the coughing and now he is better. I am like you, Myring, afraid if i try another med i will have some worse side affect. My next doctor appointment is in June, i hope i can tolerate this lisiniprol until then. Other than the dry cough, i really dont have any other problems, like some people on this site are saying.

i have been on this drug for 2 years and have been to the hospital twice because my throat swelled to the point where it closed up and I couldn't breathe. This last trip to er the er dr. told me of side effects from lisinopril and changed my medication. After looking at this sight, I have many of the side effects including cough and leg cramps!

I have been on 20 mg for 2 years, I never knew of all the side effects. I have many of them and never attributed them to this poisonous drug. I have the cough, have had sever rashes several times, throat swelled shut twice and I had to go to emergency room. Went again 3 days ago ad e.r. doc switched my bp med. That's when I started doing the research. I have had sever leg cramps repeatedly in the past 2 years. Sheesh. I'm changing doctors.!!

meanjeanne52, since switched to a different bp med, how do you feel now? did you see big changes and can you share teh name of that other drug that hopefully is working better, im getting to the point where that soft spot in the neck just before the collar bone feels like pressure, so i fear my throat will close up also.

thanks

OMG, I am so glad to described what I'm having to a "T" since I started this, I'm coughing constantly, tickle in throat, can't sleep because I'm coughing, just diagnosed since I've started these meds as "asthmatic" never had it in my life, I think this medication gave it to me. Now, I'm on a puffer twice a day and a steroid for the congestion and post nasal. I'm seriously thinking of going off these and tell the doctor to prescribe something else, why should I be sick all the time worse than before I started these meds.

I too had the tickle in the throat. I had episodes when I could not swallow and my eyes would tear up along with a coughing attack. I went to an ENT yesterday, and he saw I was taking Lisinopril with HCTZ, and he told me to call my doctor and to change my BP med.

hi snr, its funny you said "episodes" because that is a great way to describe this, i can go like severeal weeks of not having a cough or sensation to couch, then all of a sudden it comes back the cough, and yes sometimes it feels like someone is pressing their finger on the soft spot of the neck where the collarbone meets the throat.
thanks for your reply, i will try to brave being on this med a little longer for fear of changing to another med and not knowing what side affects will hit me next.

Stupid me! I requested to switch to Lisinopril to save money on scripts. I just starting taking Lisinopril about 3 weeks ago. I started coughing during the second week. The third week I called my doctor and ask for a script for my old BP medication. This stuff is trash! It's not worth saving money if it makes you feel like crap. I took Benicar in the past with no side effects. I would recommend Benicar, but let your doctor help you make a switch. I stopped taking Lisinopril a week ago, but I am still coughing. Does anyone know how long this side effect will last after stopping this drug?

Hi,

I'm a female taking this medication and hctz. The throat problem is one of the side effects that I was warned against and I also have it. However, I feel that my BP has done so well on this med that I am willing to endure the slight "tickle" that prompts me to cough to try and clear my throat. I will take it up with my primary care physician when I go back to him.

Hello. I too, have been taking Lisinopril for approx. 1 year now and yes, I have that same "tickle" in my throat causing me to cough for a few minutes which happens I'd say a couple of times a day. My eyes also well-up with tears and it's completely uncontrollable. Also, I never seem to know when these coughing attacks will happen. I have continued taking this med because it really does lower my blood pressure and because my job took away our health insurance, I cannot afford the luxury of seeing a Dr to try a different med. Hope this helps in some way.

I HATE this toxic drug! It did the same thing to me. Took a month for the coughing to stop after I stopped taking it. Try Benicar.
