I was diagnosed with crohns in 1982 and started on heavy doses of prednisone. I would seem to improve but as soon as they took me off the drug the symptoms got worse. I was hospitalized on and off for over a year but still required surgery. I am 68 yrs old and still have side effects from the prednisone. I was never told to take Vit. D until recently and have developed Osteoporosis, glaucoma, thin skin that rips and bruises terribly, I suffered from severe joint and bone pain for all those years and not one doctor could figure out why the pain moved around and swelling of the joints was painful. Blood tests showed no Rhuematoid arthritis, just imflamation. I was given a prescription for Prednisone once and through it away. Im convinced the drug did most of this damageand have been told by doctors that this is surely the reason for glaucoma and osteoporosis since it not in my family history. I never resumed my natural shape and my hair was never the same. Good luck to all who must take this terrible drug, its worse than the illness your treated for.
