BEWARE DIABETICS. My mother was prescribed SMZ-TMP and after 3 days her blood sugar dropped sharply to the point she was near coma. She has diabetes and anyone with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar every 3-4 hours while on this drug. Her blood sugar has been very consistent for years, in the 95-110 range. After three days of SMZ it fell to 22 which normally results in coma. Fortunately she reacted well to treatment and is normal now but extremely weak.
