I've been on Simvastatin 40 mg for about eight months now. Cholesterol levels dropped significantly. But man have I been hating life! Joint pain mainly in the legs. Beginning to walk like an old man and I'm only 62. Also more pain in my back than ever before! I talked to my doctor, who suggested I get off them for 6 weeks. I did, and I feel like a million bucks. I've got to get back hold of him to find out what he recommends? Probably some other pill!!! Just today I was talking with my pharmacist, and I told him my symptoms. He said the muscle deterioration could actually lead to death. I don't think I'll ever go back on them. I'm going to try and watch the old diet and get more exercise. Hope this helped someone? Good Luck!!

Your story is very much like others..

I have not been on any statins - but people close to me. That forced me to look for information - and one of the webb-sites that I found - was this one.

I live in Sweden where more and more people are put on this type of medications, too - statins.

Even if my cholesterol level was high - I woud never, ever take a statin.

Are you sure that it`s high cholesterol and fatty food that produce heart problems?

Who do you think perform most studies - the pharmaceutical companies themselves. Sometimes they pay some other people to do it, but they always have the last say as to what is to be included in the final report.

Here are som books that might interest you.
It`s all about making up your own mind about what you want to do - not to just obey your doctor. It`s your body and you know best how you feel.

You should always ask about benefits/risks and what might happen in the long run. Maybe you are also taking other medications. Then it`s important to think about interactions.

Books:

The truth about the drug companies (Marcia Angell)
Overdosed America (John Abramson)
Malignant Medical Myths (Joel F. Kauffman)
Death by prescription (Ray D. Strand)

The Great Cholesterol Con (Anthony Colpo)
The cholesterol myths (Uffe Ravnskov)
Lipitor - thief of memory - and other books (Duane Graveline)

www.ravnskov.nu
www.thincs.org
www.spacedoc.net
www.askapatient.com
www.peoplespharmacy.com (search for statins )

Google "Stopped our statins"
Under "print articles" you will find an interesting article from Weston Price Foundation about the different statin studies and side effects

www.statineffects.com with interesting links

Please also read the stories for the other statins on this site - and others.

All statins have similar side effects which might appear at once (lucky people!) or after many years. Then neither the patient nor the medical staff will understand that it has to do with side effects.

Some patients might understand but still be dismissed and forced to do more doctor´s visits and take more medications for other "diagnosis".

It`s not just statins that can give you problems. Don`t take more medications than you absolutely need and not a day longer than you must.

What I saw in people close to me I will always remember and that`s why I tell other people to be aware.

Good luck!
