I stopped taking this dangerous drug in 2-08 . . . . although a few side effects are better, I still have many side effects . . . . . nerve/joint/muscle, etc. I have been taking many natural products to help them. I have read that it can take l-2 years to get rid of this poison from your body/mind . . .. .unfortunately, some people never well.
Neuromuscular symptoms are side efects from cholesterol lowering drugs.
Anywhere you have nerves and muscles can be affected.
Recovery from statin poisoning can take weeks, to months, to years. And like 777 said, some people never fully recover.
By the way, the letters in STATIN stand for "Scam Therapy And Treatment Induced Neuropathy"
I hope you get better soon. I hate it when these drugs take away a person's health, which is why I am so active with this issue. I wish you the best. Get well and take care.
Bobby
I am 50 this summer. I just posted after taking only 6 weeks of Lipitor. My posting is just above you. Let me know if you hear of you light at the end of this burning and tingling tunnel.
I too was only on this drug for 4 months when my AST and ALT levels went up to almost 400 from the 30 they had been. Also, I had severe arm and leg weakness--could hardly climb stairs, couldn't get up from a kneeling position, couldn't start my lawnmower. My doctor told me to get off of the lipitor. There were no immediate improvements, and finally 8 months later he convinced me to have a liver biopsy because of my raised creatine levels. The results of that were that my liver was normal, and that doctor said that if these levels continue to be elevated, I should have my muscles checked, meaning checking the muscle damage done from the lipitor. Since that time, the levels have improved substantially, even though they are still not back to normal, and my muscle tone gets better every month. I have been off of the lipitor for a year and four months now, and I hope that by mid or late summer I will be back to where I was before I started with this poison! I take a lot of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, 400 mg. of CoQ10, L-Carnitine, and a number of other supplements, which I think have helped me. Good luck and just hang in there and don't give up! I also have done brisk walking or biking at least four times a week. Sometimes my legs would just ache when I did it, but I believe it helped build back my muscles eventually. I can't wait to be back to "normal" again!
