For all of you that has had problems with Yasmin or Yaz, I'm sincerely sorry. I'm really curious though to all of you, has anyone that read the leaflet that comes with the birth control box, have any problems? If you read that it may increase potassium which may cause serious heart and health problems so it would be good to get your potassium level checked before taking it. Side effects usually go away after 2-3months, has anyone have problems longer than that and ended up finding out what was the problem? I just wanted to know because my girlfriend is about to take it...and I wanted to know if one knew about the effects of this pill, and what precautions they had taken. Okay, thank you.

I applaud you and your girlfriend for reading the informational booklet BEFORE starting on Yasmin. I wish her well. I also urge particular caution with respect to the possibility of DVT's (blood clots in the legs) and pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs). She needs to know ALL the symptoms of both and seek IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION should she develop any of those symptoms. They are not a "side effect which usually goes away after 2 - 3 months." They are a LIFE THREATENING medical complication. I know this because my 18 year old daughter died in her third month on Yasmin from pulmonary emboli. Her symptoms were shortness of breath and funny little pains in her chest. The doctor who saw her misdiagnosed "anxiety." Two days later she died. I urge all women taking Yasmin to educate themselves about the risks and symptoms of blood clots. If any member of your biological family has a history of blood clots, get yourself tested. There's a screening test for Factor V Leiden - a blood clotting disorder present in approximately 5 to 7 % of the population. That works out to over 1 out of 20 who are at increased risk of developing blood clots while on birth control pills. Please be cautious. Take care.

Check out the Yasminsurvivors forum, you may have to google it but I almost died on this pill and when I found that site, it saved me. With that being said your girlfriend needs to know that this pill is downright dangerous and experimental and there is a lawsuit working against it and it has only been on the market since 2001 and its caused so many problems for so many women. Why take it when there are hundreds of other birth control pills to choose from? I went to a new doctor not too long ago and asked her about Yasmin/Yaz/Mirena....they are all about the same thing...she said it was never her first choice to perscribe women when it first came out. Also, forget about ever having sex with your girlfriend, it kills your sex drive! It sucks.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. Excuse my informality, but I am indeed curious...was she on any other type of prescribed drug at the time? (that question goes out to anybody with side effects as well while on this pill)

I was put on this drug to control an ovarian cyst and disfunctional bleeding. My periods were lasting between 5 and 8 weeks at a time. I was anemic. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I was on Yazmin for 2 months and 1 week when I had a stroke. No other risk factors. I don't smoke, drink, have high cholesterol, etc........ Nearly died. Warn anyone you know.

My girlfriend has now been on Yazmin for a month and a half. When she first started it, her period lasted for a little over 5 weeks, and now she has regulated almost completely if not fully. There were no side effects of this pill on her other than her hormone level jumping at random when she first started the pill, and by jumping I mean being needy of me. I am truly grateful that there were no harmful effects on my girlfriend, and I am sincerely sorry to those who have not been the best with it as well. I hope you all find the special pill that acts perfectly with your body, best wishes from me and good luck :]
