I had the mirena inserted in Dec.2007. The first year any side effects I had seemed mild, but then I had no monthly period. For most women this would seem like a good thing, only it was replaced with spotting. I was spotting so frequently that I had to wear a thin pad all the time. Out of thirty days, there was about ten that I was not spotting. I had mood swings, and all kinds of symptoms a women would get if she was pregnant. I was not pregnant. Then came the vaginal infections. This brought my husband and I to consult our family doctor. We asked him to remove the I.U.D but he talked us out of it. We returned a week later and insisted it be removed. He did remove it and now I have recovered from the side effects. It's not likely that anyone in the medical proffesion would willingly admitt the Mirena would cause this, but for my husband and I, seeing the recovery is proof enough. The purpose of this I.U.D is to allow a man and women to have sex without conception. In truth, constant spotting and pregnant-like symptoms are not sexy. My libido dropped to an all time low and we rarely attempted sex. Most physicians are so concerned with preventing an unplanned pregnancy, they don't stop to hear how damaging these kind of side effects can be.
