Okay, I had Mirena put in by my doctor a little over a month ago....

Okay, I had Mirena put in by my doctor a little over a month ago. I had my first period as scheduled, but I bled for 2 weeks. I have been spotting ever since. This is getting on my nerves. My question to everyone else is this: has anyone noticed a metal or copper smell with their discharge? I seem to be having more discharge than usual, and it has a coppery smell. It doesn't matter how many times I take a shower, it's still there. I am currently waiting on a call back from my doctors office. This is frustrating me more than anything. It is making me smell like I'm dirty. UGHHH. I'm leaning more and more towards getting myself permanently fixed because nothing else is working for me. Someone please help me. I can't help but think that I'm not the only one having this issue. Thanks

Are you certain that the Dr installed a Mirena and not a Paragard? I have heard of many women mentioning the metallic smell as well as increased discharge with the Paragard. Check out the IUD Divas board.....you will be able to find this issue if you search for it.

You are not dirty. Ask your doctor to give you some flagyl for bacterial infections. I have had my mirena since January 2009. I just had my baby and 4 weeks afterward I had it put in. It hurt so bad cause I was still contracting. LOL But with me when my period blood changes colors it smells like rust, and then my discharged smelled like rust and I got flagyl it helped. Now anyone know about these bad cramps??

I bled like that for almost a year after it was put in. For the last 2.5 years with the Mirena (got it out a week ago), I've either been bleeding or 'discharging' enough for a pantyliner virtually every day. And then there were the cramps.... The black, tar-like periods grossed me out. Yuck!
