im on my third week of my first nuvaring and ive noticed a lot of changes. i get the mood swings, headache, low sex drive, but another symptom i was worried about is that after my last period it seems like ive been bleeding very minimally ever since and every time my boyfriend and i have sex i bleed a little. this has never happened before so if anyone else is experiencing this let me know. ******

I was on nuva ring for 1.5 years and then quit... i had many symptoms like major hair loss, extreme bitchiness (i would frequently throw things), burning during sex (felt like little cuts on the inside) and the usually minimal bleeding during/after sex started as soon as I discontinued use of the nuva ring... which was 7 months ago and the bleeding is still "hit and miss". Let me know if you find anything else out... about the bleeding. I came on here hoping to find people with similar symptoms because my pap came back inconclusive and I have to wait THREE MONTHS (until june 9) to let the cells re-grow to go back for another.

Thanks :)

NuvaRing is akin to the contraceptive pill in that it is hormonal contraception, and as such, some people will experience side effects. However, it should be noted that it might take a cycle or more for your body to adjust to the type and level of hormonal contraception in the NuvaRing. The drug literature does state that break-through bleeding is common in the first cycle of use. Other symptoms mentioned in previous posts are commonly reported with all types of hormonal contraception. (That being said, it is probably unlikely that side effects are persisting more than half a year after use has been discontinued, and it is even more unlikely that NuvaRing would cause severe dysplasia -- i.e. an abnormal pap result -- though mild dysplasia can be caused by many things ranging from tampon use to frequent swimming to pregnancy.) Bottom line: If the side effects you experience while using Nuva Ring are truly bothersome, consult your doctor. You might be better suited to a different contraceptive.
