I hope this reply still finds you improving,my son was on this poison ,from 5th grade to 9th grade, like you his life spiralled out of control while under the care and guidance of the medical profession, they were nice enough to send us to other specialist,ie, sleep clinics therapists etc,but never did they say it might be the meds, even after a 10 day stay in a psych hospital. He has much improved over the last year while not on this med,but still has a somewhat poor self vision of himself,my thoughts and hopes are with you. Please report to med watch and visit www.parentsforsafety.org
Good Luck with your recovery and let your doctor know exactly how you feel.I am stunned and amazed that the physicians are still unaware of these terrible side effects! You are a lucky girl that someone took notice before you decided that life was not worth living,to many have died already! Please listen to flindy and report,it will help many.Kate
Best of luck to you. Many people on this board have gone through similar or worse situations because of Singulair. I'm glad your sister helped you make the connection. This can be a debilitating drug. Keep us posted on how you feel and make sure you tell your doctor. If your doctor is unaware of these side effects send him to this board and tell him to take another look at the list of known Singulair side effects. If he doesn't listen to you then find another doctor. Your doctor should also submit a report to Merck and MedWatch on your behalf. If he doesn't then find another doctor.
We've all been through similar situations so you're not alone.
My son was on singular about 4 years ago and i thought i noticed irratability, lack of interest and depression, but he was only 4 1/2 at that time and i couldn't tell. It did relieve his allergy symptoms. We took him off at that time. Now, again put him back on it this past year (he is now 9 years old) and i see again a lack of interest, depression, mood swings, irratibility and his teacher just told us that as this year has increased he has changed in his school work as well. As of last night we will be taking him off of this medication for good and will continue to manage his seasonal allergies with an emergency inhaler and zyrtec/claritan type meds. He is sluggish on the baseball field and not as alert (he ususually a natural athlete!) and he seems depressed and withdrawn - which is not his personality. I thought maybe because he was getting older he was changing but now I realize it is again the medication. It is okay for a week or two to get through a cold or high allergy week, but long term I will not have him on this any longer and wish that Merck would make the long term effects clearer to the doctors, patients and public in general. We are fortunate that his allergy symptoms are not as severe as other children and we can go lightly on medications.
