Hi and please feel free to email me. I was on Lipitor for quite a while (20mg)without any issues. Due to insurance etc I was switched to 40mg of simvastatin-(Zocor-generic)--with in a short time i noticed i was waking nearly every morning with a mouth full of junk requiring a deep throat clearing. Then a low level sore throat that persisted for more than two weeks. I went to my doctor who agreed that it may be related (though I think she doubted it) and had me stop. Now i have been off for 5 days and still my throat is sore (though not sore to swallow) and mouth generally feels "messed up". If any of you have had any sore throat experiences etc please let me know. Also how long did your side effects last once you came off the drug?

I have never taken statins - nor would I.

I have seen a lot of side effects in people close to me and one of them had problems to swallow his food.

He had a lot of other problems as well and I have, no doubt, that many of them were caused by statins.

It doesn´t matter if you take Simvastatin (=Zocor), Lipitor - or any other cholesterol-lowering drugs (=statins). They all have similar side effects which will appear sooner or later.

When it`s taken time, both doctors and patients can´t see the connection and therefore the patients are, not seldom, given a new diagnosis and more medications - or are simply told that it is just old age.

Are you aware that not everyone believes in the cholesterol hypotesis, i.e. that high cholesterol could cause heart disease etc.?

The best thing you can do for yourself - and others - is to educate yourself by reading books and looking for information on the Internet.

Here are som suggestions:

www.ranvskov.nu, www.thincs.org, www.spacedoc.net, www.askapatient.com, www.peoplespharmacy.com (search for statins)

Google "Stopped our statins". Read article from Weston Price Foundation about the statin studies and side effects. You will find it - and several others - under "print articles".

Daily Telegraph (England) had an interesting article around the 10th of April. It was written by Christopher Hudson about his experience with a statin. Mybe you wil find it if you Google his name + statins.

Under the article there is 140 comments.

Read: The Great Cholesterol Con (Anthony Colpo)
Overdosed America (John Abramson)
Malignant Medical Myths (Joel F. Kauffman)
The Truth About The Drug Companies (Marcia Angell)
Lipitor - thief of memory (Duane Graveline)

Good luck!

P:S. What a pity they have changed this site! ..

the sore throat and difficulty breathing last about 2 weeks. But the other side effects then start coming. You need to take COQH, Vitamins E and C + B6-12,folic acid.

Any statins can cause MANY side effects. The drs. and the drug co's are doing a SCAM on the anti-cholesterol drugs . . . . it is all about big $$$. In reality, your mind/body needs cholesterol to function. . . .don't let your dr. to con you.
