Took my second sulfamethoxazole for a UTI yesterday morning and within an hour was racked with fever, horrible aches, and chills. Fortunately, my doctor was wise enough to recognize a "febrile reaction," and took me off the sulfa immediately and prescribed Cipro. A day later, I still have a bit of fever, feel like I was run over by a truck, but am much better.
It is now day four since my side-effect fever began. I woke with a temp of 100.1 this morning--the only time I haven't had a fever was when I was taking 600 mg of Ibuprofen. Blood work rules out anything other than "febrile reaction to sulfamethoxazole. When will this be over?
