I was recently prescribed Simvastatin 40 mg by my GP as I have high blood pressure and Cholesterol. After the first nigh of taking Simvastatin, I am suffering from severe dizziness and feel weak. Can Simvastatins cause these symptoms after one dose and has anyone else had this problem?

I personally wouldn't take any statins, however, 40mg is a high dose to start. What were your cholesterol numbers? Statin drugs cause all sorts of side effects as I'm sure you've read by now. Some people have reactions after one dose. I think your body is telling you something, stop!!!!! Take care.

Please, please be careful. I was started off on 40mg well, which was crazy to begin with. 40mg's high (5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg increments). Took it for 3 nights ONLY, and had severe side effects (fatigue/weekness, muscle/joint pain, numbness/tingling of skin, insomnia). I have been off of simvastatin for 3 weeks, and I'm not feeling any better. Just 3 nights of taking it made my life a complete nightmare. Take OMEGA-3(1000mg) / CoQ10(at least 100mg) to go the natural route.

I too was on Lipitor for several years and due to insurance reasons was switched to Simvastatin. Oh my, after just two weeks, I stopped taking it. It would make me fall asleep quickly for about 2 hours and then the crazy thoughts and sleepless nights would start. I felt like I had consumed about 5 cups of coffee. My doctor is currently on vacation and I am awaiting her plan. But, I believe we will probably try a different statin drug and if that too does not work, then we can force the insurance company to cover the Lipitor.
