I started taking Lamictal for a seizure disorder a little under 1 year ago. It was difficult to tell how it effected me because I was going through xanax withdrawal at the same time, which I am sure is the reason I had the seizure to begin with. I did not realize this was the case at the time and so i cannot really tell you what my initial reaction to Lamictal was. Now I am noticing some side effects. Difficult to fall asleep (but that's always been the case.) Nightmares (they have gotten less intense, though). Occasional nausea, although never to the point of vomiting. I recently cut my super-long hair b/c it was falling out a bit. It' not as bad now that I got some of the weight off of my hair. I definitely have trouble finding words and often find myself feeling embarrassed when I'm in a social or professional situation and I'm not able to contribute as much to a discussion. I will probably stay on the med til I have been seizure free for a couple of years. I only had the one grand mal seizure. I am 31 and trying to decide if I want a child within the next couple of years, but have to consider the risks associated with the Lamictal. Good luck to everyone. Just do your best to be healthy and take care of your body.

I completely understand what you are experiencing! Im 30 years old and had my first seizure when I was 24. I had it about 20-30 min after I took an ultram which wasnt prescribed to me. I had a headache and my mom had one but didnt have tylenol or anything else, sooo...I didnt think I would have a reaction to it but one of the side effects are seizures. I wrote that one off to the ultram. I got pregnant the following year. Had my baby 3 months premature and he passed away when he was 3 days old. This took a huge toll on me. I was terrible depressed and stressed. The day after I drank for the first time post baby, was when I had my second seizure. I think it was a combination of stress and alcohol and hormones. Either way that was my last one. Its been years and Ive been on the lamictal for most of it. Im curious if I should even be on it but am to scared to get off and have another. I ended up having a beautiful healthy baby girl in 2005. I was on the lamictal the whole time. They suggest you dont breastfeed while on it which was fine for me. I also took folic acid throughout my whole pregnancy because your baby has a slightly higher chance of having spinal issues. The folic acid helps to prevent that. I want to reasure you that you can have a perfectly healthy child while on the lamictal! Chances are you will, there is only a slight risk something could be wrong but...there are so many factors on a day to day basis that could effect your pregnancy that you probably dont realize so I say go for it if you are in a stable place in your life and ready for that!
As far as the other side effects, thats another story. But I guess it could be worse! ;) Hope my experience helped you! Hang in there!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. That's encouraging. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your first baby. That had to be devastating. And congratulations on your baby girl! What a blessing. Take care.
