Isn't the medical profession wonderful! First they sell the office visit. Then they sell the cholesterol test. Then they sell the statin drug. When the patient falls sick on the statin they sell the CT scan, then they sell a hearing test, then this test and that test. And despite the large number of people falling sick on statins, they can't figure it out. But they get our money, and THAT is what its all about.
Thanks for telling your story.
I think it`s a rather typical story.
I have never taken any statins.
I had 3 relatives that did and that forced me to look for information and read a lot of books. I started in 2004 and now it`s 2009!
Side effects of statins - and other medications - certaily keep the medical staff - and the pharmaceutical companies - busy. Imagine the suffering and the cost of all this!
It`s amazing that no-one seems to be interested in side effecs and drug-induced diseases.
I live in Sweden and the situation is the same here.
We have a different health system but the doctors are equally ignorant when it comes to these matters.
The adverstising is also increasing day by day.
Here are som books that I have read:
The Great Cholesterol Con (Anthony Colpo)
Malignant Medical Myths (Joel F. Kauffman)
Overdosed America (John Abramson)
The Truth About The Drug Companies (Marcia Angell)
Death by Prescription (Ray D. Strand)
How doctors think (J. Groopman?)
What if medicine disappeared? (Gerald E. Markle and Frances B. McCrea)
Google "Stopped our statins", under "print articles" there are several interesting articles -one of which is from the Weston Price Foundation.
Google - "Wonder Drug that stole my memory"
You will find an article by Christopher Hudson in the Daily Telegraph (UK) and 140 comments underneath!
Yes, there are other views on the cholesterol issue than the ones you hear all the time.
It`s the pharmaceutical companies that have the money and that`s why their voices are the loudest.
But you may find other views on www.thincs.org, www.ravnskov.nu, www.spacedoc.net and so on.
You will also find patient stories on www.peoplespharmacy.com (search for statins) and www.askapatient.com.
All statins have similar side effects
.
They can appear at once, or after many years - when they are diagnosed as something else and more mediations/treatments are added.
Alternatively, the patients are told that it`s just "old age".
