I have been on NuvaRing for over 3 years now. When I first went on birth control I was using the ortho evra patch however, I was suffering from side effects such as nausea, always feeling sick and tired. I eat a lot and everything but while using the patch I felt TERRIBLE eating the blandest toast. I am not a heavy drinker but even one cocktail would cause me to be extremely sick. I switched to NuvaRing and since then I was back to my normal self. Not only that but while on the NuvaRing my period is like CLOCKWORK, I know exactly when I am getting my period. I did not experience any breakthrough bleeding and my periods are extremely light. Overall the switch to NuvaRing was so worth it.

I thought the same thing, for the first 3-4 years. However, I have been on it about 6 years now and the last couple of years I have experienced all of the symptoms being described but never knew why. I didn't blame Nuvaring since I'd been on it so long and had no early issues. It got really bad recently, and I finally decided to take it out after doing research to see if things would improve. It's only been a couple of days, so we'll see. As for the symptoms that are most bothersome that I have experienced within the last two years:
Obvious hair loss/thinning
Temporary infertility (in the bad way, not sure if it will actually come back)
Depression
Extreme Fatigue
Weight gain (15 lbs)
Loss of Libido (sexual desire)
Painful intercourse
Vaginal bleeding outside of period (my period was at the end of May this year, but started back up full on June 1st and is still going today on June 9th)
Chest pains
Numbing/tingling sensation in legs/feet
Shortness of breath
Increased sweating, easily exhausted
Short on patience, short tempered
Emotional rollercoaster
Migraines...

That's most of it...so be careful!
