I am looking all over the web to find out about this. I have taken Lyrica for 3 years and gained 60 pounds which horrified me because 10 years ago I was very overweight and struggled like mad for a year and lost 100 pounds so it was so depressing to gain this 60 pounds. I am going to be starting the Neurontin in a few days when I finish the Lyrica, which I am doing because it costs a fortune and the Neurontin is half the price of Lyrica, yeah! I am just praying that the Neurontin will be effective for my neuropathy as well as the Lyrica. If anyone knows if there is less weight gain with the Neurontin?
While taking Neurontin I've noticed that my appetite is stimulated. At times I would feel REALLY HUNGRY! With that said, I don't think Nuerontin causes a person to gain weight. Rather it overstimulates a person's appetite. If you're concerned about weight gain while taking Neurontin I would suggest being very aware of what you eat and when you eat! Perhaps keep a food diary. And drink plenty of water. Although I've noticed that while I take the med I seem to retain water. So that might be a cause of weight gain for some of you. So far from what I've read about the side effects I seem to be the only one who is LOOSING WEIGHT!
I have been on Neurontin for several months. I am constantly hungry, and I have gained 30 pounds! I wake up in the middle of the night starving, and I'm always hungry. I've never experienced an appetite like this in all of my life, not even when I was pregnant! I love the way Neurontin helps my pain, but I have experienced this unfortunate side effect. I would imagine that if you gained weight on Lyrica, you will probably gain weight on Neurontin as well, but everyone responds differently. I hope this helps!
I was on Lyrica for a couple of years and had terrible weight gain. I gained over 100lbs. Even though I had no appetite and lived on 1 banana and 1 yogert each day. Because of this, my doctor switched me over to neurontin. I had lost almost all the weight inbetween the lyrica and neurontin. I was told to use this because it does not make you gain weight like lyrica does. I was taking it and doing ok until about the 8th month and within 5 months I had gained anotehr 100 lbs. No kidding. This is the truth. Even though my appetite never returned and I eat about 250 caleries a day. I feel like I am a 125lb woman traped in a 255lb body. So believe me, you will gain significant weight with neurontin. I don't know why they underplay this side effect. Although they do admit to weight gain after continued long use of the drug. I am going to stop the neurontin. I would rather live with the postherpetic neuralgia than the problems 125lbs gives me. I had damage to the brain and nerves due to a case of spinal meningitis 6 years ago. Good Luck
please help me i have just been to the doctor i was given neutrotin and i seen weight gain like 10 pounds in 3 days and i was eating like a bird... it didnt help my pain for squat.. today i was given lyrica 75 mg,2 times a day in the beginning now i have been reading horror stories of weight gain about this lyrica medicine. I have severe back and neck injuries.Im in constant pain. im also taking xxnax for my anxiety which has worstened with my pain. I lost 85 pounds since having my 3 yr old and im in my 40's and i sure dont want to gain weight when i still have 40 more pounds to lose at least, any suggestions would be appreciated..
skully725 . . . . all of these drugs are not the answer. Most drs. are drug-happy, since that's all they know. There are many natural products/alternatives for health issues.
Wow, the natural remedies are good to extend, but alot of people always opt for opiates or some kind of narcotic for pain because there pain is so bad, i am self have been in so many accidents and had another one this week. I could not get up hardly out of bed before, and much more. Fibro problems, naropathy, and etc..you get it the painn is is mor ethan unbearable i cry often i tried the neurotin it blowed..it didnt do squat, i went to another doctor he gave me lyrica, sample cause i need preauthorization from my insurance, always some kind of red tape, and more stress on top of pain..but its always something with insurance etc..i was so amazed at the results i got from lyrica 75 mg im in my late 40's too, ive read 50 % good results for people and 50 percent bad, like swollen feet , hands, weight gain etc.. I have only been on it since last week, beleive me if i didnt have to take meds i wouldnt but the pain is over bearing...now its either the meds and be bed ridden or waited on hand and foot which i could never afford.. The lyrica has given me the ability to move back around, i have had no weight gain i actually lost 4 pound since starting it, cripe i hope i continue to lose weight i have slost 85 pounds on my own now89 pounds, whoo, this klyrica i can do alot more things i couldnt before, but my brother told me and i know you all must of hear it before pain medicines are just a mask because once they wear off your back to square one, and not to fool your self and over do it since your mobiloity may be better you can actually cause more harm so little steps are the best to go on this meds and anymeds really. I have seen alittle indigestion, but i dont have a gallbladder and make sure you always have a bite to eat with meds otherwise you get nausea most of the time with every meds now of days it seems. Boy i could go on and on, but lyrica is alright, i hope i can get the pre authorization done so i can continue with this medicine, i cant afford the high cost of it . Say a prayer for me all, it would be appreciated, i thanks god and pray everyday that im still alive and im tryong to live my life without a chip on my shoulder, i have a pretty happy go lucky personality even when im in pain, i dont feel everyone else should suffer my misery too. I deal with the best i can and god is a great help! Thanks fo listening and feel free to leave comments love to hear from others like myself..Have a rockin weekend! Skully725
Sorry, but I'm getting off of it because of the weight gain. I'm so bloated that I could just pop! I look like I'm 8 months pregnant.
