Hi, I was also happy with the Mirena apart from gaining 25lbs (I'd never been overweight in my life) and losing hair for 3 years....and as soon as I made the connection (not that fast, unfortunately, since my doctor was no help), I got the Mirena taken OUT. I can't comment on the fertility/milk question as I don't have any kids, but is all this really worth the convenience...?
wow my milk supply decreased alot!!!! i thought it was jsut me, cuz the doctor said it wouldnt effect my milk supply or infect it with hormones...what a lie! now i feel it hangin out my cervix and they say its ok..i better niot get pregnant
I'll tell you what happened with my pregnancy after having my Mirena removed. I got pregnant real soon after it was removed. By week 8 of the pregnancy, I was bleeding heavily. I thought I misscarried and went to my doc to make sure it all came out. Nope, the baby was still there and doing fine. However, I continued to bleed and cramp. I bled very badly. I had blood clots the size of golf balls coming out daily. It was horrible. By week 16 I was put on strict bedrest. At 22 weeks I found out that I didnt have any amniotic fluid left in the womb.(I never notced my water breaking because I bled so heavily. I literally would soak a pad in 15 minutes). I was admitted to the hospital. They hooked me up to IVs and gave me meds to keep me from going into labor. At 24 weeks I received steroid shots to help develop babies lungs. Exactly 12 hours after my last shot I was taken into surgery because I was developing an infection. My baby was born at 24 weeks and 2 days. She weighed 652 grams (1 lb 7oz) and was only 11 inches long. The doctors reasoning why this happend... I had a laceration in my uterous. It ripped open. The larger the baby got, the larger the tear got. Now I Iook and find that the Mirena cause perforation of the uterous. Nice huh? So because I used this birth control, I almost bled to death. My baby had the fight of a lifetime to make it. She is 13 months old now. She was in the NICU for the 1st 6 monhs of her life. She is on continuous oxgen and is fed through a tube in her belly. But, she is home and doing well. My doctor told me after surgery that based on how much blood I lost, I should have already been dead. The doctors in the NICU kept reminding us that our baby probably wouldnt make it.
I previously had 3 full term pregnancies with no complications. Easy vaginal deliveries. If I had ever been warned of what could happen if I chose to have a baby after the Mirena, I would have NEVER had the thing placed. It's awful. I wouldn't wish the mirena upon anybody ever.
