No one can say for sure what your body will do and how it will affect you in the long run. Personally, I did perfectly on Mirena until the 6 or 8th month mark. Then the panic attacks and depression (which I had beforehand and were EXTREMLY well controlled) came on full force. Along with migraines, tingling/numbness, and profound fatigue and "brain fog".
I don't want you to be scared by our stories b/c many many many women get the Mirena and love it. But for many others of us, the synthetic progestin is not good to our bodies.
I can't advise you what to do, but can offer you this thought...
If you are worried, and are prone to anxiety/depression, perhaps before anything possibly affects you in a negative way, you could consider removal and tubal ligation. You indicated that you are finished having children, thus you have another option which many of us do not have. The alternative is that you can keep the Mirena and see how you do for the next 6 months or so. Some women do well until 1 year or 18 months. It can happen at any time. If at all. But if you do keep it, be aware of your body, your feelings, and DO NOT EVER HESTITATE to seek help for your anxiety/depression... whether that means tweaking meds or removing the Mirena. YOU are the most important person in your life.

I agree my experience with Mirena has been wonderful!!
I would choose a ligation but the problem with that is that there is a 2 year waiting list for tubal ligation in my area, and I've gotten pregnant on the pill before so I don't want to go that way..to me the mirena is (was?) the best option....
I have had my mirena 4 years. The first 8 months my periods were sporadic, spotting but that was it. Now I have a very light period lasting only 2 days instead of the 8 heavy hell days before it. My sex life is off the chain its great! I am 44 years old and my husband thinks he has a 24 year old again. I feel great, actually lost weight and Mine is due to come out next year (I got the one that lasts 5 instead of 10 years) but I will definately get another one. If you have had no problems yet you probably won't. All the stories I hear on this site makes me worry about these poor girls. I hope they have themselves checked for other possible causes of their symptoms. I have 8 friends also on mirena and none of them have had the bad experiences like they have. I do know that a very experienced OBGYN needs to do the proceedure because if it is inserted wrong it can be dangerous. The worst complaint was one of my friends didn't like the pretty long period of irregular periods and thought of having it removed but she stuck it out and 3 years later for her she is doing great.
