I'm fed up. About 4 years ago I had a complete thyroidectomy and OMG my life has been a mess ever since, Yes, I needed the gland removed (it was a goiter pressing on my air way and esophagus), it needed to come out but OMG what a nightmare. Synthroid is a drug I can't figure out. I am convinced that this has ruined my life. I have developed chronic/non-stop head pain and pressure. My B.P. has gone up and now I'm on B.P. medicine. (still have severe head pain). It just never leaves me. E.R. visits/hospital stays and on and on. They treat me like I'm a complete lunatic because they can't seem to find anything organically wrong with me. Ummm-it hurts(my head). I am starting with a new Doctor who is a D.O. rather than an M.D. and I am praying that he finds what the **** is causing my pain. I feel like crap. The T.S.H. is in normal range but I have learned that the T.S.H. is not everything (even though my thyroid is gone). The isiots for lack od better description, are just too lazy to go the extra minute to find out what is wrong here. I just want to be able to function and this head pain will not let me do that. It is a nightmare and I have nothing but sympathy and empathy for anyone who suffers with pain on a daily basis. The only constant is the Synthroid. Maybe I can't take this stuff. It has to be that my body just can't tolerate it and need something else or T3 added (I don't know). I just pray that this new doc can figure it out because I feel so helpless with this. My pain is always there squeezing and pressing. It is horrible. Maybe Synthroid is the culprit. Good luck to everyone.

Wow, God be with you. I think this synthroid is a real scandal--there's literally a conspiracy by the drug companies and the doctors not to acknowledge side effects that they aren't forced to. If your new doctor puts you on Armour (animal products), don't be afraid to try it. Sounds like anything would be an improvement. I'm not sure what vegetarians do...

Thank you for posting about your Synthroid misery, I now know I am not alone. I was feeling great when I went to the doctor in May and she ordered a TSH blood test that showed I have hypothyroidism. After I went on Synthroid my world as I knew it fell apart. I had to get the dose cut immediately to keep my heart from racing and even on the reduced dose I am miserable, I have itching, headaches, my heart is wacko, I am hot in my core but cold to touch and sweaty, my lips feel swollen and I have twice as many bm's as usual, I have trouble sleeping and I lost six pounds in the last month (I didn't need to lose weight) and I too feel like crap. I am waiting on the results of another blood test right now but I have decided I don't want to be on this medicine anymore, it is ruining my life. I don't know what I am going to do but I do know that I was fine before I went on Synthroid and now I am not, it was a total shock to me when the doctor gave the diagnosis because I was feeling so good and enjoying my life so much.
I hope for you that your new doctor has solved your problem and you are feeling better now. God bless you.

I started synthroid this summer and within a couple of months started having the worst headaches of my life. I did an internet search and someone suggested taking a magnesium supplement. It did the trick! I take one at lunch and any slight headache I may have woken up with disappears. I think I am going to start taking one at night as well so that might prevent the early morning slight headache. I use NatureMade Calcium,Magnesium,Zinc supplement and I'm a believer! What an amazing difference.
